I have a little Harbor Freight 6 ton bench top press, not sure if that will have the poop to do the rubber LCA bushings if that's what you are trying to do though.

Nice work! You're going to like the delta joints. I'm a few months ahead of you with all the suspension rework. I did the uniballs, bushings, and new CV axles on superbowl sunday.

This weekend I'm rebuilding/revalving my Icon coilovers and shocks. We'll see how that goes.

 

Did you get a different valving configuration?

 

I did! Called SDHQ and gave them some specs and told them what im feeling (when i hit a pothole its like a tank hit my truck) so they sent me what they think will help.

 

Nice! You'll have to let me know how you like it. Once I get mine on the truck I'll see how I feel about them. I'm interested to see what these ride like since I'm pretty sure they were wore the fuck out when I got them already.

 

For sure brother! Yeah I'm really excited to see if that helps the ride quality. Something I found out from SDHQ was that Icon only recommends like 1.2" max of threads showing on the coilovers. I have 1" on the passenger side, and 1.5" on the divers side.

 

I got some after market UCA’s and I’m planning on removing the bushings to drill and install some zerks thinking about maybe getting a ball joint press tool from an auto store

 

I did a rebuild on my coilovers about 20k ago so hopefully those should be good for a little while longer, at least until I get caught up with everything else. Next up for me is to replace LCAs and fix my cam tabs, I'm debating just doing the wheel bearing/hub assembly at the same time too. Then it's on to hammer hangers in the back and clutch/throwout bearing work.

What are you replacing the LCAs with? I'm concerned about the lower ball joints and the LCA bushings too. Cam Tabs are also something I want to get done.

I did a wheel bearing on the drivers side last year and its a really easy replacement, you can get the whole assembly, I've been meaning to do the passenger side. How many miles do you have on your truck? I would say the proactive approach is a good idea.

 

What type of arms are they?

If the bushings are going to benefit from being greased I would think they should be loose enough to just tap them out with a hammer, otherwise the grease wouldn't go anywhere even if there are zerks.

A ball joint tool could work as well, if it comes down to it and you want to try my press let me know. Might need to grab an adapter set from the auto store though anyway to get it to sit right.

 

The rebuild was easy, only PITA was getting the springs off and on and the nitrogen charge due to lacking the tools and had to run to shops to get it done. Plan to spend some time cleaning them up a bit while it's all apart.

I just bought a set of cheap Detroit Axle LCAs from Amazon. I figure I can swap things out, save the stock arms and take my time cleaning them up and rebuilding them with new ball joints and bushings so I can have them as spares when the cheap ones inevitably wear out.

I'm at about 80k right now so the bearings could go either way but with 65k of that being lifted it probably can't hurt to just swap them now and maybe I can try to rebuild those myself too so I can have spares on hand.

 

Where did you get the nitrogen fill done?

I just went to a motorcycle shop here in town, Everett Powersports. I probably could've snuck them in to work on a weekend and done it myself but that's more trouble than it's worth. I have been keeping a look out for a quality spring compressor at less than new prices, if I ever find one I will probably get myself a nitrogen tank and regulator too so I can be setup to do my next rebuild and help out anyone else that needs it. I'm surprised that there aren't really any shops around willing to do it, as long as you have the right tools it's a fairly quick and easy job.

 

Do you have kings or icons?

 

I'll just say I was definitely over 1.5" by the time I pulled them off to rebuild.

Thanks man, I plan on taking them off at my house and driving to Jim's and doing the rebuild. So I should have all day to do it. Lucky he has a spring compressor and nitrogen charger.

Yeah my driver's side bearing lasted probably 60-70k driving with the lift, and the passenger is still going strong. I ended up buying just the bearings from Toyota and those cost me like $300, then I realized the whole bearing assy was only $190 from the auto parts store, and easier to replace that way. Another instance of dealership fuckery lol. I don't even know why i keep going back to them its like an abused wife staying with her husband.
