I like the idea of the batteries under the bed. Would also help a lot with weight distribution. And yea an AGM should be fine for being submerged i'd think

I put my dual compressor on the passenger side of my engine bay. Although don't think it'll fit if you have ABS and/or cruise control.
I just removed my cruise control module on mine. Although I'm currently trying to find a place to re-install it for my long road trip coming up.

Yeah, that’s spot in my truck is taken with abs and cruise, and my relocated washer fluid tank (which may turn into my methanol tank).

I like the prospect of a little weight distribution as well, though the twin arb isn’t exactly a light replacement, it certainly isn’t as heavy as two batteries.

AGM flip down tray under the bed to mount them sideways. Same idea with a jump terminal under the hood but you can access the terminals on the sides too.

Compressor can be submerged if you reroute the intakes.

Thanks - the need to cross brace from another thing I have down there led to it being the only way to making it useful space.

Why add the weight of dual batteries?

Therein lies my biggest hesitation. The truck is already getting fat with all the armor and a few of the other heavy additions like crawl box, compressor, winch, 37” spare.. add the topper or RTT and it’s going to be WELL over stock weight...

I like the idea of duals for camping and longer trips where I may not be doing as much wheeling and want to bring more creature comforts that are plugged in. But I imagine the entire set up would easily be 100 lbs - 50lbs over stock, which doesn’t sound too bad, but it adds up fast! crawl box 60~, compressor 21, winch 80~, spare 93, topper 170~ or rtt/rack 140~. That’s already about 300lbs of additional stuff without even including bumpers, sliders or skids!

Ultimately I’d love to have a little offroad trailer like an M416 to house all the extra stuff like batteries, tent, gear. That would allow me to keep the truck as light as possible for wheeling, but stay fully outfitted for trips, and set up a sort of base camp. But that’s down the road.

Circling back to your question though.. I don’t really want to add the weight lol

@Fernando We both used the RAD triples . I’ll also be putting mine in that location, just waiting on my ground lead for my welder and then I’ll shape them up.

Nice, you can call him (Roy/Rory? The owner of RAD Design.. not 100% sure, I’ve seen it spelled both ways and I couldn’t make it out when I spoke with him lol), he’s super helpful and can answer any questions you may have.

Yup, the 300 dollar one for the chain driven Tacoma Tcase. You’ll have to reshape the shifters if you want to get them into the stock location

I wouldn't add one unless you plan on a constant serious electrical load. I have a buddy that runs his Dometic refrigerator for 3 days no problem on a single battery without running the truck. Starts up fine after 3 days straight of just sitting and running the fridge.

Partially true. I can elaborate in more detail if needed, but here's the gist of it. I used the RADesigns Shifter Plate for the J-shift Tacoma T-case (Go to RADesigns website, and it's under Products > Transfer Case Shifting > Triple & Twin Stick > Tacoma/Chain Drive Triple Sticks > Triple Stick Tacoma Case rear housing assembly only. The the $150 USD one. I'll include an image of it below.) The triple stick shifters are from Inchworm and unfortunately discontinued.

You can still achieve the same look with the RADesign (I think?), but the Inchworm triple sticks let me cut off the old shifters and build some new ones since this crawlbox did come out of my dad's rig.

Hopefully that helps clear up some confusion, but I am here if something else needs to be cleared up.

@cbechtold whoops! Thanks for clarifying that

The full triple stick set up from RAD should be the same as far modifying the shifters, they’re just a slightly different shape, as can be seen here:
