I mostly did it because my switch shorted out and it was blowing fuses. I unplugged it a while back and finally got around to replacing the switch because I had my skid plates off. Now I am chasing down an oil leak.

Thanks for the advice. I did not replace the fan bracket bearing but did check it for play (as best I could). It seemed solid and spun freely. Any other ways to check it or is it one of those things that might crap out one day with little warning?

It’s like the AC idler bearing, it just craps out. It might start to squeak or scream or lock up on you
going down the highway which it did once to me and left me dead on the side of the road.

Here is a photo of a locked up fan bracket bearing that took out every thing in the fan area.
The bracket took out the radiator, the fan blade, the fan shroud, fan clutch, timing cover all at once And possibly even the timing belt with metal getting in the belt area

So I picked up a SureCall mobile phone booster a while back. It does increase a weak cell tower signal. My plan was to have it available to myself and my wife, so I picked up a WeBoost antenna that I mounted to my rack in hopes that it would work with the SureCall booster. Short answer, no.
So I made a mount for the magnetic SureCall antenna today.

You have to have at least one bar for it to work. It only amplifies the signal it can receive.

Lifted the front end an 1” to help match the J59s in the back. Still waiting for my ECGS bushing, which will be installed later. I was a bit worried about boot angle afterward but it’s damn near the same as stock. Also replaced my old skid plate with the one I found in the junk yard. Went to replace my TPS with the new one and the truck did not like it. High idle (2k) and revving from 750-2k. Very strange. So I cleaned up the old one and put it back in. Golden. Washed the truck, then immediately rained (with sun shining). Good day.

Spent the day trying to talk myself out of building a custom flatbed with a removable canopy. (Didn't work) Just did a 4 day trip to the north rim of the Grand Canyon and the camper shell with no win-doors was annoying as hell. Finally fleshing out what is important to my setup for my needs a little bit more.

So now I have lots of maths to do, plans to make and research to do. I think it will give me the best of both worlds and provide options for some other stuff I'd really like to have (Second fuel cell, decent sized water tank...)

Couple cheeky pics. Did the sublime point trail and it was great fun. Ran into a few jeeps and one poor Subaru that was in for a bad day if he kept going lol.

Oh and my girlfriend had never seen the Grand Canyon before. She is from Oregon and Idaho. Here she is getting a "proper" look:
    IMG_1959.jpg

We had the point all to ourselves. Sat and ate ice cream looking over the rim, was a really great time. But really pointed out some points of improvement for the future!

I've been contemplating something similar, went from some sort of wedge/pop up camper to full bed rebuild. Not sure I want another project that big though...

When you installed your new one did you follow the procedure in the FSM to adjust it. They have to be dialed in for zero or the ECU has no baseline for resting idle cause it thinks you're pressing the gas

I recently got done telling myself the same thing... No more big projects for a while, go enjoy the thing. So I did a few pretty awesome trips and I've gotten to the point that the improvements are worth the effort. In my case, I like to explore across a route, camping in a different location each night over a few days perhaps even a week. Currently my fuel range is horrid, especially after adding 33's and being fully loaded climbing to 7-8k the whole way. Going to re-gear in Nov to 4.56 to help with some of those issues but either way I want more fuel.

Then just building a setup that is extremely quick and easy to setup and take down. RTT, mounted awning and so forth. We usually like to stop for lunch during the day and having quick shade would be really nice, especially here in AZ.

But man part of me is dreading all the work. Honestly it's not even the actual building... it's the weeks worth of research that goes into it first that I dread the most. Don't get me wrong, it's fun but it's also a ton of work. Kind of like planning a good route with BCN!
