I bought into them at around $15-$20. I had ARI, CIM, LADR, and NRZ. They all dropped hard, to like $5. I kept holding. As they cut their dividends, I waited for a small rally, and sold them. I immediately bought SPHD with all of those funds, I was buying SPHD with a high yield.

I think now, you'll be good to get into them. The dividends have been cut (or, adjusted to the new share prices). I was just caught holding the bag, and found a place I thought was better for the money.

I am in all Blue Chips now, hoping I never have to deal with a dividend cut again (or if I do it'll be rare and temporary). I just couldn't trust mREITs to fund my retirement some day. But I can trust JNJ, KO, PEP, TGT, WMT, VZ, etc.

The way I look at is I take $100/stock price X yearly dividend.
That will tell me how much dividend $100 will get me of that particular stock. Then I look at the payout ratio to see how much of the companies profits go out as a dividend. If you look at the difference in XOM and Psxp, $100 would get you about the same yield, but Phillips pays out way more of their profits as a dividend. So I buy Exxon.
I do that with every stock that I buy.
By the way XOM is a go to for me and I have another order placed at $42 that I hope gets filled.
    Edit: that’s
$100 divided by stock price times yearly dividend

You should have told me, I would have sold them directly to you.

The problem for me was, I bought these things at about a 10% yield. When they cut the dividends, I was then getting like 3% on my money. If you bought after the cut, you probably have a decent investment. It just didn't make sense for me anymore.

If you want to play the 3.2 sell at 3.6, it looks like it could have been a solid strategy lately

Same here, only one I didn’t sell completely was ARI because they didn’t obliterate the dividend yet. I’ll see how much they cut it for the next round.

@Boyk1182 does sphd declare monthly or do they declare 3 months at a time? I know some monthly dividend payers that say announce the next 3 and some do one at a time

edit: I found it. Looks like 1 at a time, and should be this Friday.

Yup monthly. Last month (I think) was a cut. I hope they’re able to rebalance to get rid of cutters rather than wait to get rid of them. I haven’t been able to figure that out, but I noticed F disappear real fast. It was either a quick cut, or coincidental with a rebalance.

Edit: Example, I looked it up, it’s rebalanced semiannually, in January and July. If a company suspends its dividend in February, I wonder if they have to hold that company until July to eliminate it? Or do it immediately? I might call Invesco and ask them.

Edit Again: I called them, got a voicemail. I’ll try again later.

I've added NRZ and now I have a stop loss of $7.22 set JUST IN CASE of a catastrophe...I added 33% of shares I now own when the stock was in the $3 range and I owned around $17 for drips so my all in is $10.86 right now...I think it's going to recover but it's been dipping and is almost tempting to add even MORE....It's at $7.90 now and 2x it's hit an ~$8.50 ceiling and pulled back...When it breaks through that it's gravy Jerry, gravy!

Yea, I’ve been watching. They have a few that have cut that are still there. Possible they just hold the ones they think will return quickly. Could be costly to get out of some holdings. I’ve been thinking of adding this to my prestigious group of stocks, but curious if the dividend starts trending back up.

Check back to my post you quoted, it’s heavily edited. I am calling them the try to figure this out, it’s not really mentioned online.
