New VFtune install

    Rafael provided the explanation for the labels:

    Filename Meanings (most of these were obvious enough except the THX):

    Reg = tune for customers using 87 octane and above.
    vs
    Premium = tune for customers using 91 octane and above.

    Thx = tune WITH throttle/gas pedal/accelerator pedal enhancement
    vs
    No Thx = tune WITHOUT throttle/gas pedal/accelerator pedal enhancement.

    33 = tune for customers using 33" tire size
    vs
    35 = tune for customers using 35" tire size
    vs
    No 33 or 35 = tune for customers using stock wheels/tires sizing (a.k.a. for customers do didn't change/mod/upgrade their stock tires)

    4.88 = tune for customers who are using 4.88 gears
    vs
    5.29 = tune for customers who are using 5.29 gears
    vs
    No 4.88 or 5.29 = tune for customers using stock gearing (a.k.a. for customers who didn't change/mod/upgrade their stock gears)


    I was able to successfully apply 04B80_Premium_Stock.p5f and let it idle afterwards for about 5 minutes. Test drive will ensue later this evening. I'll report back my findings. From the description given by Rafael, I think I will want the THX edition of my tune, be we shall see.

    Is there a way to verify that the tune is applied? Will the Flash Manager Read operation return some additional bits of data that validate the install is successful?

    No. That is a feature. It is generally not detectable.

    Your only real clue is the Flash Successful dialog in the Flash Tool as soon as the flash is complete. If there is any doubt, just reflash and look for that confirmation.

    Only drove 5 miles to go get my front window tint fixed... but man, it feels great so far. I can do in town driving with the first inch of the pedal. Feels like someone took the banana out of the tailpipe and gave her some ex-lax to boot! She feels smooth on the throttle. More miles and updates coming soon to a forum thread near you!

    I've been running 2.0 SFOB OL for a good while, but i'm running 33's. Is there any other file i should be running to accommodate for the tires and keep the previous features?
    i have also edited the tune file for increased alternator voltage

    The tire tunes are only for AT shift points and speedo limits.

    Nothing better than SFOB, esp if you got some extra weight or drag.

    That said, flash something up for fun if you feel like it.

    I am so flippin frustrated. I updated to 04b14. So I bought more credits for VF tuner so I could update to the tune files for 04B14. The website was down for
    maintenance. So I waited. Rafael responded with a link to the instructions. I followed the instructions. It took the credits from my account, but only gave me a stock tune file for 04B14. Then flash manager no longer recognized that I have already unlocked ECU ID 04B13, and when I tried to download from the server any tune files for 04B14 it says internal server error. So I uninstalled all programs, and attempted reinstall. OVtune reinstalled fine. I have access to 2.0 on ECU ID 04B13 again. I cant use it but it is there. I can not reinstall VF tuner because the link is gone now. I wish I could explain how frustrated I am right now. I really want to use what I paid for and can't. I know they are busy, but I would like a little help. I would like to think I can do this since I have already done it several times. I really think the problem is on their end. I am following the instructions but it just kept saying internal server error.

    Anyway I got to go. no more time for this tonight.

    04B14 cannot be downloaded since it is a new ECU. I believe there are only Tune Pack files that must be emailed to you.

    You can no longer load 04B13 files since you are updated.

    Hey Tonered, I know I can't use the 04B13 stuff. It just had all disappeared, even the unlocked ecu id set said I didn't have access to it. It was really wierd. I am just aggravated, lack of sleep is my main problem. I will hopefully get all this straightened out in the next few days. I just wish I hadn't updated the ecu, if I had known it was going to cause this much problem with vf tune, I would of just left well enough alone.

    It will be worth it once you get the files.

    If you can't see the files and reinstalled the software, maybe try reinstalling the REG file?

    Also, post up any screenshots.

    Shellshock linked the VFtune install link for me. Reinstalled that, it recognizes me, and lists 04B14 as a unlocked ecu ID, but when I click download on the credit server like Rafael said to do, it says internal server error. Who knows. I will just have to wait until they figure it out.

    Internal Server Error means their server has a bad deployment or configuration on it. It's not you, it's them. Sucks none the less, but I bet it will be fixed by tomorrow if they are aware of it.

    "Holy", and, "Shit", are the two words that come to mind after putting another 20 miles on the truck this evening. For all the hype, it's true. To parrot a few party lines here:

    "This is a different truck."
    "It should have come this way from the factory."
    #Preach.

    More tangibly, I did the same test from a stop - what does it take to reach 40 mph? ECT mode and < 100 feet. Previously, ECT mode and at least 100 yards. It's that much improved. Every transition feels smooth. Highway or city, I only need the first 1" of pedal. Going 50 mph, 1100 RPM. Push the pedal 1/4" to 1/2". 1 second later I am going 53mph. To all those without Tacoma Stockholm syndrome, this doesn't sound remarkable (and to be fair, its really average). But to those who've put more than 100 miles on a Taco, this is a revolution.
