Let me see your Icon 2.5 coilovers heights

Where are you guys on height of your coilovers and what size tires can you fit. I currently have it under 2” and some say it’s to high but I seen the tech specs and max is 2.13”. Have you guys had any issues with CV’s this high? I have 265/70/17 but I want to put 285/70/17 or a 295 with rubbing but don’t know how high of a tire I can go up on my 2013 Toyota Tacoma

 

The 1st suspension setup I had when I swapped out the Baja Bilstein’s was Icon 2.5 coilovers, RXT leaf pack on Option 1 and RXT rear shocks with remote resi’s. On the coilovers, I had it set to show 1.75” of threads on both the driver’s and passenger’s sides. I wanted the same amount of preload on both sides. That yielded me from center of hub to bottom of fender 23 3/8” driver’s and 23 1/2” passenger’s. It took a while for the rear to settle but it was ass high as expected. I can’t seem to find my initial measurements, but now it’s final settlement is 23 3/4” driver’s and 24 1/4” passenger’s. Here’s a couple pics within a couple months after install:





Also, you mentioned about wanting to upsize your tires. I have 295/75R16 BFG TA KO2’s which I was able to fit when I had my stock Baja Bilstein’s. Regardless of “lift,” modifications are required: CMC, flattening of the pinch weld, trimming bottom corners of flares and trimming/replacing/removing the inner fender liners. Alignment plays a big role as well. Providing I don’t do any rock crawling. I drive on sand and dirt roads that have good dips. Only way to know where to trim regarding flares and liners, just take it offroad where you normally would go. Turn the wheel at full lock, forward and reverse, drive like you’re just learning to drive, take dips a little fast lol. Regarding CV angles, they will be pointed down a bit but are still operable. I have a different setup now and it’s a fraction of an inch higher than the Icon’s, but my inner boots are not touching at ride height. That’s the main concern.

By the looks of my new lift right under 2” on the icons, seems like 285/79/17 will be fine without and chopping and welding. I’ll take a look at the cv boots once I install my new tires here soon and of course alignment

 

You’ll likely still need to do a CMC. It might appear to be in the clear when turning the wheel side to side on flat ground, but there’s a good chance that’s where you’ll rub under compression and dips. And just make sure when you go for an alignment to have the tech increase the caster to get the tire away from the cab mount

 

oh okay, I’ll talk to the auto shop about the alignment and how much is that CMC work?

Shoot, it’s really rare but if the alignment shop can increase the caster enough, a CMC miiiiight not be needed or enough to cause discomfort. I totally forgot how much the shop here charged but it was quite reasonable and they did a CLEAN job! Here’s a link to the plates that are recommended to be welded on:

I like the tone you’ve got going on. Normally I don’t care for black wheels but it ties in with the graphics! What leaf springs do you have? Sorry if I missed that part

I vote keeping your current wheels lol but it’s of course your decision. How do those AAL’s feel?

 

Lol, I’ll keep those on. The feel a little stiffer that’s for sure. I hit a 1 mile dirt sloppy and rutted road today Going 50mph and the suspension felt great

 

Nice, that’s what I liked and miss about the Icon’s. They do soften up those types of roads and dips at decent speed. It cornered hella well also because of the stiffness

 

you know what is doesn’t feel good on corners and dips. I went over a really washed out road the type that makes the ass end bounce around and this one didn’t

 

I found the measurements a couple months after the RXT leaf pack install. Driver’s 24 3/8” and passenger’s 25 1/8”

so the rear measured those measurements? And the fronts were 23 1/4”? I’ll measure mine tomorrow to see what I get on all 4 corners

 

That’s what the rear measurements were about a month I believe after install. It went from that to an average of 24”

The fronts were about 23 3/8-1/2”

 

and you said you did a CMC?

 

CMC, flattened pinch weld, trimmed bottom corners of the fender flares and trimmed parts of the fender liners where the pinch weld was. I shortly after replaced the liners with Fend-X liners

I have a set of CMC plates for sale if you need them. It should take about an hour for someone to cut out the old area and weld in the new ones.
