I've been wanting to do it for a few years now, but moving to the South halted my motivation, there's not really wide open middle of nowhere like the West. So most of our camping is in one spot for a weekend or week. But we're thinking of moving somewhere West again so it's starting to motivate me a bit more. I re geared last spring to 4.56 and I haven't noticed much improvement, I'm also a bit heavy footed though.

As I get older my body just can't take a ground tent, last big trip we had I couldn't even go hiking, let alone walk around the campsite for half the week. Also from what I've heard it's rtt/pop ups have less issues with condensation/rain, which isn't a big issue in summer, but we like to do mostly winter camping.

I'm the same, I'm trying to talk my engineering buddie into designing it for me. I can do it, I just really don't want to. Building the thing will be easy if I have a good plan going in. I've got all the tools/machines to do the hard work.

Yeah I hear you on the getting older thing and the RTT. Plus for us, it actually stopped us several times from camping in spots because of shit on the ground and so forth. RTT is really gonna be a great option but I am gonna get a flat one as I don't care for the brick looking ones. Likely will mount my solar panels to the top of it but we shall see. We also want to do a fair bit of winter camping and being up off the ground and having the heated blanket should really help with that!

Well that was cool to come back to - just got back from the Olympic Peninsula, for a pretty awesome hike up amongst the peaks.

Nice. What are you getting? Xtracab so you can move the GFC over? I'll be there someday, I'm sure.

No, and now I feel real stupid. Didn’t realize there was more to it, other than install and adjust idle speed. :(

It's not tough but it's pretty much required. The FSM is pretty clear on the procedure. As a rule you should never have to adjust the idle screw on a Toyota EFI vehicle from where it came from the factory.

I don’t think it exists for an 04 since Toyota thought it was a good idea to make some kind of shitty half assed electronic throttle.

It may not since Toyota considers the ECTS-i to be non end user serviceable. Toyota says you must replace the entire throttle body on those :/

I drilled out the spot welds on the stock tabs and welded my own sheet metal back onto the bracket for my 24F AGM. It's been working fine for years.

    It's not that bad...

    ...at the moment.

Exactly. GFC will get swapped immediately, but I'm not building this one out that much. It will stay as the dedicated camping/adventure/fishing setup, not technical wheeling.

Its a gear reduction box, like a transfer case but without the driveshaft connection point, that mounts between your transmission body and the transfer case. if you've ever seen videos of people "ghost riding" their trucks, that's thanks to a crawl box.

Got tired of the slightly sagged rear end with camper shell, bed platform, bikes, camping gear in the back, and I won't even get into the on-the-bumpstops ride when I haul firewood. Wheelers 2" AAl and 5100's. because of sagged springs I actually went up 2.25, the 'settle' will be good. BTW, their included 'center pin' is the cheapest shit garbage chinese dogshit, do not use it. Their pin stripped at 28ft/lbs. How do I know? Because my $600 Snap-on torque wrench tells you real time data on how much torque is applied...

Ahh, I see. Igor Jr., except bigger ;). We all know how that goes... Well, @Blackdawg does anyway. :luvya:

In all seriousness though, that sounds like a great idea to me and I think you'll be super happy as long as you can keep the speed down a bit. Or air down a little more than you did when we were around last year. Will we see it this year?

    ^^^ this guy gets it.

he won't be able to resist all the different suspension options. It'll get baby long travel for sure.

and i changed the oil in my SX DD. Used the Fumoto valve thing for the first time. Was nice. Drains slower but still really conveiant. Just need to relocate the oil filter and then my life will be easy for that. Now that im driving to work again.

In a couple weeks if all goes to plan.

And I've learned my lessons. I'm setting out with clear goals and expectations for this rig this time that I didn't have previously. Plus, the 1st gen will be around when I really want to wheel.

Nice. Have been considering one of those for draining (I don't care if it takes a few minutes), and the 90 degree that Zane got for the oil filter.

Want to try it first? I haven't ordered yet. Want someone else to be the guinea pig. As he said to me: "If it doesn't work, returns are free through Summit" :)

    https://www.summitracing.com/parts/fms-m-6880-a50?seid=srese1

Or, free returns and shipping (sort of, given that it's $10 more and out of stock) at the 'zon: https://amzn.to/34eHHA2

I just don't see the point of that. Im going to relocate mine to the wheel well. Its a DD and the filter can mount to the back side of the front body mount frame horn. Plenty of room and won't hang below the bumper if done right. That way its just right there.

The 90 degree one will still make a freaking mess over everything so whats the point.
