Bad news bears Intel users. Leaks are saying the high end nVidia 3000 series card will need a PCI-E 4.0 connection or they suffer from jittery performance. Gamers Nexus is even saying a MB manufacturer was told by nVidia that AMD motherboards will likely be the only recommended pairing for now with the new high end nVidia graphics. Supposedly both cards can and do use all of and more than the amount of data an IRL PCI-E 3.0 X16 connection can manage. So Ryzen is likely the go to for these cards until Intel drops Rocket Lake.

Basically nVidia is going to have a label available to card partners for there boxes that recommends using a CPU and MB with PCI-E 4.0. Intel obviously does not have PCI-E 4.0 at this time, so in effect nVidia is recommending Ryzen processors and 500 series AMD boards.

We keep the AC at 70 between 9PM and 6AM, the rest of the day it’s at 74. We used to have it kick down to 68 when we went to bed but it’s just too hard on our air handler (it’s from 1986).

I have 3 2.5” SSD’s, either one or two spinning drives, and a M.2 SSD in the case and two USB external HDD’s. I think last time I totaled it up I had over 20TB of storage but I need to rearrange it and get a bigger M.2, 500GB just isn’t big enough for a C: drive.

If it's true then I wonder if the GPU will be down on power so you have to turn down resolution and settings or it stutters no matter what. I can live with a GPU down on power for a year or two while we wait for DDR5 on desktop.

Are you running a single monitor or multiple?
My triple setup is 5760x1080 (3 1080P monitors) and I average 57 FPS with my 3600 and RX580, I’m actually a little bit shocked it’s so smooth at the settings that it chose, I think I might get a little bit more performance if I went back up to the 1500 MHz Oc that I had on the card before.

I would guess they'll fix it by putting a frame rate cap on some games. That's pretty common, there are games I have to do that with my 2080Ti because of weird issues that can come up when pushing 300 fps in some titles at 1440P with G-Sync on.

GDDR5 sounds like 2022 now. Possibly 2021 from AMD but even their slides don't focus on it as a Zen 4 feature anymore. What's funny is that both AMD and Intel have hinted that we could see PCI-E 5.0 in 2022 as well, so PCI-E 4.0 may be a dead standard fairly quick.

No one really knows what Intel is doing. When you watch their slide deck presentations on architecture it kind of feels like they have 3-4 directions they are trying to catch up. External manufacturing and big-little core designs seem to be a focus. For a laptop I could see big-little being a great feature but on desktop I'd rather just have highspeed cores.

AMD buyers will need a new motherboard next year anyways. Zen 4 based Ryzen processors will use a different socket than AM4. What we don't know yet is if it'll be AM4+ and have some compatibility with AM4 or AM5 which would be totally new. I would guess we see AM5 with DDR5 memory next year if AMD feels DDR5 is ready for prime time on consumer products.
