So the oil filter had been kinda leaking a little. Must not have been tight enough.
So I tighten it up using both kinds of oil wrenches. Shut the hood and drove away. Got about 2 blocks only to find out I put a hole in the oil filter.
I was able to fix and clean but what a pain in the ass.

You should never use a wrench to tighten an oil filter. Spin it on till the gasket binds, then another 3/4 turn. Done.

I'd take that thing off and check underneath - you might find the gasket from the last filter or some other obstruction causing a leak.

Yeah. Hands only for tightening an oil filter.

Taking it off. smash the bitch with a wrench.... but putting it on, make sure surfaces are clean, take a lil oil and apply a thin layer on the mating surface of the motor n spin it on with the grip of your hands.

You tightened it 2 different wrenches? Isn’t that a Bit of an overkill

Just a bit. But they kept slipping. That’s why I used two.
Like I said. I have done all the oil changes but 1. Truck has 170K miles. So I’ve done more then a few. Shit just happens.

    Kinda of a side question......

The oil filter has a catch basin with a small drain. When the oil filter is changed, it always vomits a bit of oil. The oil then runs out the catch basin drain onto the engine, frame, skid pan and anything else below including the floor near the drain pan.

Any solution to this to avoid the irritation of clean up???

    Hmmmm........

I just had a brain fart on this. Thinking about attaching a fuel hose to that drain nipple with an arrow clamp then running the hose to terminate near the crankcase oil pan. The hose could be routed and secured with zip ties.

While the drain pan is collecting the used engine oil, the filter can be removed, the oil vomited from the filter will run through the hose and be caught by the drain pan.

Now, just need to determine the fuel hose ID base on the OD of the filter drain nipple.

I have a hose connected to nipple that runs down near the skid plate. I put an empty washer fluid bottle down there to catch it. I was doing great up until this point.. Now i have a little bit of rust protection...,.

    Cut the top off.

Yup, an ozarka water bottle fits perfectly in the drain and belt below. Don’t even have to hold it there
