My Taco is a Sheep? (weird noise at shutdown)

    Hi all,

So I just filled up my tank and drove back home. After parking in the garage, my tacoma made a noise when shutting down. Right after the engine stopped, I heard a "meep" (like a noise a sheep might make). It sounded kinda like a muffled electric buzzer. The best way I can describe the noise is it sounds like someone is playing the game operation (and failing) under the hood. Sounds like its coming from the passenger side, but hard to tell. I was able to reproduce the noise several times by starting and stopping the engine (every shutdown). Sound lasts 2-3 seconds or so.

I'm wondering if this is a combination of a full tank and the heat we've been having here in CO (it's doing something emission related, maybe?). I scanned the manual and Google brought up some talk about second gens, but nothing on third gens.

There are no check engine lights or warnings as of yet. I tried re-tightening my gas cap to no avail.

Any idea why my taco meeped at me?

All good, these things will make noises after shutdown for emissions reasons.

This is the first time I've heard it and it's definitely loud enough to where I would have noticed it before.

Stand by your truck about 5 hours after you shut it off, it will run an evap test and you will think the truck is haunted, lol.

As a point of reference, what do you imagine you are doing to this sheep when it makes this noise?

Your kidding right? I did rust proofing sometime back. I think i spent the entire afternoon removing the wheels, shields, and spare tire to better access the entire undercarriage, plus spending the time carefully to spray it all down then hanging around to see how it set up, but putting its all back together. Never heard a single noise come from the truck. It was as dead as dead is.

Went through the manual. Didn't see anything about meeping or buzzing noises.

Enlighten me. What part of the manual mentions this noise at shutdown?

Now if you got a "meep meep", that would be road runner...different animal all together....
