OEM driver's side door handle

So mine cracked and have heard that aftermarket handles never last long, so I'm looking to buy OEM. After searching around it seems a bit hard to weed out what is actually OEM and what is just labeled as OEM.

That link is to a real one, I have bought the exact same. Paid $105 for it at the time so its a good deal at the moment.
Non OEM do suck, I've bought multiple inner door handles AND exterior handles and they all break within a month.

 

In my experience the aftermarket ones last about as long as the OEM ones, and they are stupid easy to change out once you do it a couple of times...so I just get the cheaper aftermarket ones.

I bought an exterior handle off Amazon for the driver's side door back in November and it still works fine. It's a little squeaky, but it's probably because I didn't put some grease on the mechanism.

 

It's really just a 10 minute fix so for the price I'd get the cheapest one and a backup set in the back.

 

Yeah I actually just took the door panel off today to fix a window issue and it was pretty damn easy. Probably just get a cheap one

 

I got mine from oriellys. Doorman brand which I guess are very similar to OEM. Got it earlier this year, sticks a little but works.

GREASE THE METAL COMPONENTS.

 

Bought a cheap one on Amazon for my sons truck. It's a simple fix that takes literally minutes. I was worried because of the reports but it actually seems like a decent handle as long as there are no other issues preventing proper function (linkage etc). There are 2 screws that hold the exterior handle in. One screw also secures the lock mechanism. The lock kind of rotates and pulls out. You should pop the steel rod out of the plastic grommet in the lock mechanism before removing. It should just pop out with a little pressure. That's all I remember off the top of my head.

 

Same, I just buy the $10 one last as long, the thing is you gotta fix it cus if one door is broken and you try to open other door and it breaks while its lock youre fucked (lol) atleast this is the case for simgle cab 1st gen lol

 

Bought the cheap one last year, driver side.

Bought another for passenger, if the original one breaks.

So far so good.

Also picked up another set (factory) from the junkyard, as backups

 

Ha ha! I thought about exactly the same thing! When you are down to one working handle you are on thin ice!

 

Just went ahead and bought a cheap one that a guy listed os OEM (and even showed OEM packing materials with it) on ebay. Probably isn't OEM but out of all the cheap ones it looked to most legit hahah

 

Today after work, my passenger side handle snapped. I am in the thin ice club. Replacing tomorrow if I can find the part locally.

 

Anyone know if the link OP posted in first post on this thread will work for non-power locks?

 

I'm 99% sure that power/non-power door locks don't matter when it comes to the handles...I can't see why it would

I don't remember ever seeing it listed as an option when ordering them

 

A few years ago when mine broke I shelled out the bucks for an OEM replacement and it only lasted six months. The latch (the part that actually holds the door shut) gets gummed up over the years and it takes more effort to open. This puts more stress on the handle. If you clean and lube that latch real good, your new handle will last, even if it’s a cheap one. If you don’t, your new handle probably won’t last, even if it’s OEM. After replacing the handle several times in quick succession I took the latch out and gave it a thorough cleaning. Now I can open my door with my little finger, and my cheap, eight dollar Amazon door handle is holding up just fine.

 

I bought a pair off Rock-Auto for like $10-15 and they'd held up for the last year.

I can't remember where I bought mine at the moment, but I'm thinking A-1 auto?? Anyway, I'm thinking it was aftermarket with a lifetime warranty. It's been several years, and it's doing just fine.
