1.05 was really good though, esp FOB.

If the pedal is this responsive with the non-thx tune... makes me wonder what the enhanced THX tune would feel like? Any of you OVTune veterans want to chip in if you've tried both?

just waiting on the tactrix cable so i can get the ecu id and email them back. what happens after that? should i buy the taco tune pack or pay a credit to have them tune what i have on my truck? ie: sb intake, urd mk2 ypipe, trd exhaust, sprint booster, core s/s. no armor, stock height, and light wheel and tire setup.

OVT is not yet offering custom tunes. The only somewhat custom tune offered in the past were for the OVT Dump Tubes, which were a step beyond the URD Power Extractors. That said, there are plenty of choices in the tune pack that will get you in a sweet spot. Basically, in order of perf / throttle response:

    Base running 87 < Base running 91 / 92 / 93 / 94 << SFOB running 87 < SFOB running 91 / 92 / 93 / 94

    1) You pay for the software and the Tacoma tune pack
    2) 2-4 days later they send you a Master Key and a link to download the main VFTuner application.
    3) You can now run the VFTune application in a limited mode. The application will tell you your System ID.
    4) Send them your System ID.
    5) 2-4 days later they send you a XXXXXXXXXXXXX.reg file that you add to your Windows system registry. This is an additional form of DRM to protect their IP that maps to your System ID.
    6) Assuming you have your Tactrix cable, you can now run VFTune to run the Identify function which will tell you your ECU ID.
    7) Send them your ECU ID
    8) 2-4 days later they send you a link to download the tune set (I pasted a picture of the file set they sent me above).
    9) Pick the tune file you want to apply, use their VFTune Flash Manager to apply the tune.
    10) After flash completes, turn the car on and let it idle for 1-2 minutes. Then add 10-30 miles for the ECU to relearn its base trim.

You are tuned. It is great.

Just a note that anyone can install FM or vF, without the Master Key, and launch the Flash Tool to get the System ID immediately. That speeds along the REG file delivery.

Further if folks know their ECU ID (the OBD Fusion and the Carista apps are known to show it), there's no need to wait on the Tactrix delivery to request the Tune Packs. The only decision gate here are for Tacos that have ECU Updates (2016s through 2018s). Those folks would want to request the latest ECU ID as the update is easy to do at home and just makes OVT even better.

i know you're gonna have something to say about it but first thing is to dump the sprint booster and enjoy all the refinement work that went into throttle controls by OV. i have run all that in the past before OV came on strong. the Pedal Commander was what saved me from selling the truck when we were all stuck with the stock tune. but it ruins OV unless you like your throttle like an off/on switch. w/o a throttle modulator like that i recommend OVT 2.0 SFOB Prem for MT.

and if you're actually into performance you'll want to dump that TRD muffler. it sounds good but absolutely kills the performance, it's the most restrictive element in your whole exhaust system by far.

@reymataco: seems like im at step 6 from that list you made. with the caveat that i didnt buy the taco tune pack yet. im expecting the vf tuner box and cable to be here today or tomorrow hopefully.

@tonered: dang. i thought the one use of the credit was that they look at what you have and adjust parameters accordingly. no matter. looks like ill just get the taco tune pack and find the one that most fits my critera. is there anything that can be done with just vf tuner and the cable now without the tune pack? probably gonna end up getting the pack next month since im actually over my play allowance this month lol.

@subrat: i hear ya. once i get more into it, ill know what i really want. right now its just talking hypotheticals cause im just stuck waiting. the sprint booster, like you mentioned was something that really caught me by surprise. i havent seen such a dynamic difference in a vehicle since probably when i tuned and deleted my scorpion powerstroke. and its not the sprint booster makes all this gobs of power, no nothing like that. it just made it blaring obvious how garbage our drive by wire system is, and how bad the throttle gating truly is. and thats why to me its laughable when people just say "oh just press the gas more", its like people dont think we did that lol. when everything is all said and done and the sprint booster is truly not needed, i was actually thinking i might throw it in my sequoia, i havent bothered checking, but im hoping the harness plugs is the same lol. since my truck is a sport oriented build, i do value being nimble, thus running no lift, and no armor. the ultimate plan is to go boosted. i always wanted something supercharged, whether that was urd or magnuson remained to be seen. but for the time being im totally ok with what i have plus the ovt goodness! i seen you mention the trd exhaust once before, and dont worry my friend, i dont really consider it an intregal part of my build. i already was thinking of what cat back i wanted to go with. the system sounds good, but even with the urd ypipe, i kinda find it too quiet for my preference. i actually like the more audible side of the exhaust spectrum. for this build, i was thinking of finishing the urd setup and go with the 3" catback, with either their own muffler or go with widowmaker. well see how everything pans out in the next few days.

Coming from the Flash Kit, I honestly do not know what comes with just the vF license. I would be good if you can let us all know.

Without the Tune Pack, you could test Flash Manager to see if that is available for non-editable tunes.

Also, you can trade / barter with other folks that have your same ECU ID for the files that you want.

    It's a good word.

Answer: Sort of. You need the Tactrix to connect, but just like the OVT software, you can certainly get a jump start by installing and activating it. You have a 2019, so there are no ECU updates for it yet. But, the Customizations are very handy. Check out Section 9 of your OM and / or the very last link in the ECU Update 1st Post.

There are two ECU IDs for the 2019 MTs. 04B40 and 04B41. No info has been given and no TSB launched. I just tried looking this morning for any 2019 ECU TSBs. None posted yet.

It is impossible to know how different the 04A71 (latest 2018 MT) base code is from 04B40 or 04B41. The best that you can do is enjoy OVT and look out for any TSBs in the future. Mainly because it seems that OVT runs better on every new bit of base code. My butt dyno sez so.

cool. i kinda wish you were local so you could check mine out. sounds like i've done a lot of what you're looking to do. the exhaust is a big one for this motor. that little 3.5 changes its game when the exhaust opens up. but then on the other side you'll need to deal with making it sound right. that has been a bit of work. and i'm about to redo it all for kicks.

Are there release dates for the ecu updates? I have an 18 and I had it updated at the dealer but that was probably about 2 years ago.

It sounds like you are asking about the Toyota TSBs? If so, then no. They launch when Toyota finds a need. Similar to but much less critical than Recalls.

If yours was updated, then it should be at the latest available. 04A61.
