Which kit was it? If I'm thinking it's the kit I think it is, I would probably agree with your fabricator

 

Can't even remember who made/sold it but it was the only relocation option at the time ... so probably the same one you are thinking of.

 

It was the alpine designs one. I don’t like how little weld there is holding it to the frame. And I’ve heard reports of people have a clunkiness or noise or something. Seems the material for the bushings used isn’t ideal.

 

I figured that's the one it was.

What about the red goat fabrication relocation kit?

 

That one is pretty extreme because you have to cut a new hole in the floorboard. Then you’ll want to plug the old body mount hole, assuming it doesn’t get cut off while tubbing. Not the end of the world but things to think about.

Hey Brian, What is your opinion on how quiet your new tires are? Compared to your old tires?

I have been considering getting All Terrains instead of Mud Terrains this go-round since I rarely go through any mud holes anywhere.
I've read from others that the Geolander M/T's are quieter than most other Mud Terrain tires...but that's what was said about the Nitto Trail Grapplers too and they got steadily, crazy louder

 

I think that’s an all MT thing, getting louder as they wear. I know my hankooks are, and my coopers did too.

 

Yeah, that's what I figured too. Right now I'm considering either the Yokohama Geolander X-AT or the Nitto Ridge Grapplers...but still comparing others too. Exact size is yet to be determined

Thanks! I’ve tweaked my method so rather than tack the side closer to the frame rail and work it around, I start at the opposite end. Makes for an easier time folding it over. Definitely gain a shit load of clearance doing a cmc like Brian’s.

 

Don't have many miles on my Ridge Grapplers, but I'm liking them so far. Very quiet as far as AT goes.

 

The Geolanders are much more quiet compared to the Wrangler MTRs I was running. Granted mud terrains get louder as they wear, but the Geolanders still seem quiet compared to the MTRs when they were new.

 

Still got about 1" of clearance at full lock from rubbing on the new tires.

 

I'm running the BFG Revo 3's and I like them. Not too noise, about the same as the exhaust for reference, and they did well off road. And you can catch them on sale at Costco a couple times a year.

 

Curiosity what was thickness of the piece of flat you welded back on? I have some scrap pieces of 3/16 I was going use but yours doesn't appear to be that thick.

 

It was 1/8" which matches the thickness of the frame and is easier to mold into place.

 

That's why I was curious it looked a lot easier to fit than mine would be.

 

I've used 3/16" before but not if I'm wrapping it around like the video. On a normal CMC where the front just gets cut off, 3/16" would work fine.

 

Makes sense. I'll pick up some ⅛" flat to use. I'll save the scrap 3/16" stuff for something else. Lol
