She's very well connected, found a house for my buddy before it was even on the market. Hoping she can do the same for me.

    It's Ivestor Gap Trail: https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/nfsnc/null/recarea/?recid=48284&actid=50

I want to drive it sometime. I've hiked it a bunch. It's a very popular trailhead so my plan is to go on a cold winter day to avoid as many hikers as possible.

Remember the USFS closes the gate January 1. There is a lot of water in the road at times and in cold weather it can be a solid sheet of ice. But, that really just makes for smoother driving!

There's only one specific spot that I remember looking sketchy. Tight turn, off camber and uphill. I saw some 4runners and jeeps make it to the gap one day when I was hiking so I know it's doable with our trucks.

Ok. The road was the part I took. I think it was for the water that day. Water was said to be trickling on the road, and not above on the right path/trail. I wanted water at the time. I started at Davidson and ended at Boy Scout camp.

Yep! Not much water on that part since it's runs the ridgeline. They intersect at the gap right before you enter Shining Rock. If you haven't hiked the ridgeline, definitely do it if you get back there. The views are amazing.

I bet their making more parking area for the crowd up there. This road has always been a big contention. Some want it closed, some want it to remain open. It is actually part of the old railroad from early 1900s. I would hate to see it get closed. There are not really many public 4x4 roads left around here. With this one you can't tear up much except your own vehicle. I do encourage all to try it at least once! Stock Toyota 4x4's will handle it fine. It's just the brush is getting overgrown on the sides of the road.

Yes, right at the beginning of the rough portion there is a pipe sticking out of the ground where you can fill a bottle up. You had a good haul!
