Bootcamp loaded out. VCM Suite downloaded. Impatiently waiting for the delivery ....

Bonus, found a recovery install file for uTune - maybe I will play with that while I wait.

Truck is getting new gears tomorrow, anything worth tweaking, or just the speedo section?

You can update the speedo section for the new R&P ratio. Is your tire size staying the same?

Yes, however, different from stock. I already updated tire size though.

Figured I would ask ya'll in this thread....

No experience in the tuning world. Bought a Volant "CAI" when I bought the truck 6 years ago and sold my stock intake. Found HP Tuners because I need to get rid of some weird CEL codes as well as change the speedo calibration. Just to make sure this unit can do that correct? Also, what intake to you tuner guys recommend for best performance. I have the 4.0 and planned on going to the 76mm throttle body if that makes any difference. Thanks

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
    1. You have plenty of intake already unless you are forcing in air with a turbo or supercharger

    2. what CELs?

    3. Cannot adjust your speedo, only hypertech inline system will adjust your speedo.

SOO, those that have had issues with the truck sticking in 4th gear due to trans AI with the v13 usually when accelerating onto the freeway. I SEE YOU! Finally did a solid long distance drip and had the same thing happen several times, pretty much only when accelerating onto the freeway in the mid throttle inputs and then holding steady around the 70mph mark. Only thing you could do was let off the throttle for some time (and even then that didnt always work) or D-4-D on the shifter.

Sooo.... i will have to tweak v13 a bit but unfortunately i have NO idea how the trans AI works and interprets everything to make its decisions.

D-4-D is by far the easiest solution. ive been doing it when i was on the stock trans tune before but im on 35s so ymmv

Yeah but i dont remember this happening on v12 AFAIK. so it has something to do with where upshifts n downshifts are in relation to what the AI trans thinks should be happening.

Try adjusting the app% where the gear is sticking.

Probably flash on friday some changes im making. After looking at v12 vs v13, upshifts were hardly touched and really only down in lower speeds and throttle inputs, but what changed huge was the downshifts, mostly the 5th to 4th at higher speeds at higher throttle inputs

    upload_2020-8-19_14-42-16.jpg

This, I am THINKING is the cause of this hang, essentially the trans AI has a predefined range at which it goes, ok, "am i going to be able to hold this gear or will i shift to it and then have to downshift soon into the throttle pedal input"? That drastic change circled above I HOPE is the cause of this hang we are seeing with the 4 to 5 upshift as it seeds that the 5 to 4 downshift is too close.

    Time will tell!

Whelp, i made some changes, now to vet this v14....

    also

    upload_2020-8-19_15-41-55.jpg

9th revision of an engine tune (fuel, spark, torque tables)
    14th revision of trans tune
    5th revision of ACIS
    16th revision of MAF tuning...

44 MAJOR tune differences over the lifetime of my HPTuner extravoganza... and there have definitely been some sub tunes in there too. Easily flashed 60-70+ times!

Figured I’ll post some initial impressions. With the caveat that in the 2 weeks since getting tuned I’ve only driven the truck twice for less than an hour of seat time :anonymous:
Weather has been so nice in the PNW that I’ve been riding the motos as weapon of choice.
I did notice the 4th gear hang @nd4spdbh is ironing out but other than that I find shifts much improved. stock motor (‘cept for retarded cam gears and Upper intake manifold Spacer) and I feel like the engine feels like my old T4R with the 3.4L and mechanical throttle. So, that’s a good thing in my book because the drive by wire just felt sluggish to me when I first got this truck. Also notice significantly harder pulling from 1,000 to 2,700 rpm where it matters most for me.

Wife borrowed the truck this week for a Costco run, didn’t know about the tune and asked me what I did to it when she got back. So there, it’s not a Placebo lol!

Glad I got the tune! Will be interesting to see the effect on MPG once I actually go through a couple of tanks.
