My experience was that the truck did drive better once it was flashed at the dealer, and then @OVTune took it to the next level.

So for the underedumacated like me, is Techstream only software that runs on a PC, or is it a hardware unit that we need to purchase?

I see your link to Google drive download. Can I just download this and install it and start learning it/using it?

Yessir. You just need a PC and the Tactrix. @Shellshock created step by step instructions at the bottom of the ECU Update 1st Post.

    You're welcome.

Yes. That is another great thing about the OVT kit!

Also, I accidentally tagged the wrong person and didn't get the edit in quick enough. It should have been @Shellshock . :D

I will read all the instructions, just a quick question - Do I plug the tactrix into the ovtune flash kit module and then to OBDII port and to my laptop? Is that how it goes? Just curious prior to reading all the stuff.

Well, I guess @shelleo is gonna wonder wtf is going on...

    A big thanks to @Shellshock !

I usually plug the USB cable into the tactrix. Then plug the USB into my Laptop. Then plug in the ODB2 to the truck.

It is the identical setup as when you are flashing a tune, except you are only using the TS software and not the OVT vF or FM software.

PC connected to the Tactrix and the OBD port.

Can you switch between 87 and 91 octane tunes without having to reset values and let the truck idle for 10 min. Or is that required every tune, every time.

Yes, the reset is only recommended when there was major tune changes relating to shifting tables. It's my understanding based on prior comments that the idle time helps get the parameters settled but nothing will be better than running miles on it idle.

NOTE: it may just idle rough for a minute

Plan is to drive cross country on 87, pick up a travel trailer fill with 91, change tunes and drive over the Rockies with the trailer. Then switch back to 87 on the way home without trailer.

I would recommend just running the 91 tune for the whole trip. Yes it is a few more dollars per tank but is worth it and will ensure the tune has settled once you get the trailer. I had to do a few tune changes on a trip going from 91 to 87 to 91 (buddy accidentally filled the truck with 87, all with a ~3800lb boat) and even after switching back to 91 the truck didn't feel quite right for the first 100ish miles. Might just be me being over-aware but thats what it felt like.

No need to overthink things. They are all (2.0 final) octane learning tunes so run the 87 tune. It'll run great with 87 gas then adjust itself for the 91 gas then adjust back to 87.

I ran 87 octane in my truck for 2 tanks (accidentally) With a 91 octane tune loaded (not octane learning), it didn’t blow up. Actually ran just as good.
