Been using Irving E87 from the start. Truck runs really well on it.

I’ve put Sam’s Club gas in my last 2 vehicles. Once a year I may put an injection cleaner in a tank. 120k miles in a Lexus 430LS and now 90k miles in a Lexus RX350. Never a problem. Now non-ethanol is a different animal. They ran like a scalded dog with non-ethanol.

    Bjs gas ftw.

To be or not to be. To fill or not my truck with top quality gas in my opinion is a first world problem... where I grew up you wished gas didn’t have mud or water on it, so now that I live here in the states, gas quality is not on my top 10 ocd musts.

cheap bjs gas and save receipt just in case.

Here, email these folks. They are sort of the oil industries eyes and ears.

Matt our problem is we are confusing them with facts and once confused they accuse. Gee, I left the oil industry because it had changed so radically. The first refiner I worked for was owned by a family. When the brothers got too old to run it, and the kids weren't interested they sold. The owner raped it and then filed bandruptcy.

The last I worked for turned out to be owned by the same guy (he had a front man) that had ruined the first.

With the family you were part of their family. A handshake was better than any words on paper. In other words they were "old" oilmen.

The last was a CPA from St. Louis who would lie, cheat, steal and use any loop hole to get out of a written contract. This is the state of darned near all in the oil industry today.

    I believe you.

From my experience, japanese vehicles run a bit better and get better MPGs on 91 ethanol free. It was a huge difference in my civic.

The thing is that there aren't many top tier gas options near me. Most of the service stations have all been pushed out of business by the big convenience stores. We use to have BP, Shell, Sunoco, Exxon and Hess but they were all small traditional gas stations mostly. They closed up or sold out to no name mom and pop operations. What is left is Sheetz, Turkey Hill, Royal Farms, and Rutter's. All of them big stores with gas and made to order food and some groceries too. I don't think any of those are top tier gas. We also have BJ's and Sam's club, the nearest Costco is 30 miles away. I wish we had a Costco in town I'd be a member there, but BJ's is convenient more so than Sam's.

What I think for me is probably the best thing to do is get top tier gas when it's available if I'm traveling and just buy it from BJ's and use extra additive sort of like Mattleg said in his comment since searching out top tier for every fill up in my area seems like it's not really going to be easy.

The extra cost for Top Tier gas which the owner's manual recommends might cost an extra $100 a year. If you can't afford it maybe you should not have spent $40,000 on a truck. Just saying...

You know how the manufacturer says if you modify a vehicle you void the warranty? This little bit is surely inspired by a lawyer as a loop hole to get out of things. You have an engine problem, they determine you used a non top tier gas once, they can say you voided the warranty. The car industry is as good at finding and adding loop holes as the oil industry. They both have armies of lawyers to read and interpret every word of every document before the public sees it.

It's not about if I can or can not afford top tier gas. I sure can pay an extra 100 a year for it but is it worth it for me to find it in my area where it's not really much available. So since I have found that out I can pay full price for the stuff that's sold here or pay less for probably the same @ BJ's

Top Tier is recommended not required. Looks like you won't be getting it in York.

I don't know...had toyota's since the 70's...didn't matter what grade fuel you ran in them. Seemed all the same to me. What i did notice with mtbe blended fuels the throttle body use to get very dirty on my 2001 tundra before the fuels were required to run with 10% ethanol instead.
On another note my 66 gto with a transplanted 421 super duty engine liked race gas the best.:D

MTBE is another example or why the government needs to stay out if things they don’t understand. First they mandated its use. Then when it showed up in the water systems throughout the country and was found to cause cancer they blamed the oil industry bbWho by the way fought its use from the start.

Fast forward and now they mandate the use of ethanol. Which doesn’t burn as well, causes problems on some vehicles that lead to fires. It only supports the farmers who grow the crops that are used to make it.

    Sounds like a wise man.

    IMO /thread
Ethanol is great when you want cheap, easily accessible high octane fuel and don't care what your MPG is lol. I ran it in my previous vehicle but only a 1/3 mix of that and regular gas to meet my octane requirements.

    @cryptolyme

I used to only buy mid(91) or high(93) octane, but as a result of a discussion on this forum started buying only low(87) octane gas over a year ago. I have not experienced any difference in performance or MPG as a result.

I'll chime in on this, I am a believer that the gasoline is delivered by the same trucks etc.. but in the past i've seen a buddys high compression Suzuki GSXR run like poo on almost anything other than Shell premium so It makes me wonder, also the valves shown on the pictures regarding "Top Tier" gas look like they could only form such horrendous deposits if they were from a direct injection car with massive EGR cycles going on (BMW/VW/Audi comes to mind).

I always fill up with 91 at a clean place or ethanol free if its going into a Rec. Vehicle but thats as far as my choosiness on gasoline goes.
