What does it feel like owning/driving/being seen in a Tacoma versus another truck?

You might have seen my old post about "Why did you choose a Tacoma over another truck?” from last week. Thx to those who helped me out.

If not, I’m not a truck guy and was in a tight spot at work (work for an ad agency for Toyota and a newbie). I was assigned the task of explaining all the reasons why Tacoma owners picked a Tacoma over other choices — especially in “truck country” places like Texas, OK, Louisiana. As a New Yorker, didn't want to mess it up.

This forum was great. Wise and generous. I looked good. Thx again all.

People in meeting did ask me something I couldn't answer.

What does it feel like owning/driving/being seen in a Tacoma versus another truck? When you have what Tacoma gives you, what emotions do you feel with Tacoma that is different? They're getting the rational side but want the emotional side too.

Harder question I think. Think you might be able to put the feeling into words? I'm prob open to some smart ass comments too. He he.

EDIT - I'm an idiot. Should've been Tacoma. Changed it. Sorry.

I’m pretty sure that Tacoma owners picked a Tacoma, not a Tundra, but i could be wrong.

I think your work is getting a little weird. Not getting the feeling this is real work thing. If your work co-workers drive Toyota tacoma have you asked them yet

for me, driving a Tacoma, over other trucks, and I have driven different brands for personal, or work reasons, is very different. I love how it has the features I want, and need in a truck, how I can make it my own. I know you can with other trucks, but, when I see another Tacoma driving by, I wave to that person, and look at what they did to theirs, and what I might want to do to mine. It looks good, and I love telling people I see who ask about it, what I think and I guess, in a way, its a feeling of pride, but also, in a weird way, of love. This truck is talked to like its my girl, and I think alot of guys do that with this truck. to sum it up, for me, its pride and love for this brand.

How I feel when I get in my truck every day:

*yes, I wish it had a functional cup holder in the center console and cruise control that actually worked

Well, I came from a GMC Canyon and, combined with other experiences, I developed some trust issues with GM. I didn't like how Ford seemed to half ass the return of the Ranger and don't care for the styling. I wanted a full size, but a mid-size fit my lifestyle better. I'm not towing and hauling and occasionally do some off-roading and am an avid mountain biker. All that combined, the Tacoma was really a no-brainer. I do like the styling of the current Colorado and Canyon, but love the stance of the Tacoma and the 3rd gen's styling. (Didn't like the 2nd gen and the 1st Gen/early 2nd gen has grown on me though). But also there's a reputation for reliability and I'm hoping that's true since this is my first car outside of GM or Ford. Even if Dodge/RAM made the Dakota, I trust them even less than GM so that (and the Gladiator) were never really options for me.

Real answer - the interior ergonomics of my Tacoma (and to a lesser degree, the Tundra) are what sealed the deal over competing trucks. They are well thought out, they look good despite being made of plastic, and I can operate almost anything in the cab without having to look at it. I also very much prefer that a BOF truck drives and handles like a BOF truck. It drives like a rugged, slow, impolite tractor that gives me a feeling of "go anywhere and play rough," and thats what I like.

Smartass answer (kind-of): I dont give two flying flips about what others think when they see me riding down the street. If I want to go out to dinner wearing tube socks with sandals, then no amount of disapproving stares is gonna stop me. On the flip side, no amount of popped collar bros crowing about badassery is going to affirm that I made the correct car purchase either. :D

For me, it feels like i bought a small rig to fit down tighter trails and haul camping gear.

When i see full size street queen trucks with tires sticking out way passed the fenders and 20 inch rims I think “thank God i dont have a tiny dick”

I think there is a level of unsecurity that stops a lot of guys where I live from owning a small japanese truck. Now i know some of these guys tow trailers and need full size rigs, but i can tell a lot of these guys are just over compensating if you know what i mean

Most of the world views the Tacoma as another midsize truck with the reliability attached to it. It’s nothing that will wow you by any means. Die hard full size truck owners laugh at these baby trucks and say you aren’t a real man.
However, I don’t care what others think. This truck is perfect for the everyday man/woman, homeowner, and worker in the country. People want to use this truck for work during the week and then go explore on the weekends without the fear of breaking down or harming it. It’s the Swiss Army knife of vehicles. It’s great in every area but masters at none. I chose the Tacoma for its rugged appearance and it’s easy modification to make it your own. And yes, at almost every stop light or passing someone on the freeway, a stare down or neck snapping usually happens but I also have a ton of modifications which may contribute to that. What a great feeling. I wouldn’t own or drive anything else to be honest. What’s not to love OP....hope this helps. Take care.

What do kind of emotions do you feel when you see someone driving and owning a Tacoma?

When I drive a Tacoma, I'm like yeah truck! Until I see a full size truck, then it's like yeah this truck is small.

When I see others driving a Tacoma I wonder if they got a good deal or over paid.
