So on this note, it looks like I’ll lose $4,000 after taxes if I sell the thing, but that’s brand new drove off the lot with 0 miles to 40,000 miles.

Y’all think I should pull the old take the money and run?

That’s a whole lot of cash if I can stomach driving my beater corolla for the next few months

 

What do you buy next is the question? If you dump your truck for 32 and then have to source a 202X for 39, that's basically 7Gs in wasted money

I guess my plan is to buy an older tundra, put the down payment on a house and pick up a new Tacoma in the next year or two.

Here I got quoted $34,000 for a new TRD OR in cement with a 3rd pedal, no “nifty” packages.

 

I would pick up a new Baby Ranger if it were me.

 

That’s also on the table, I found a decent 1st gen tundra though (like I used to have) for $9k with a tick over 100,000 miles. That’s what had my mind working on selling this truck, even though it’s awesome.

They’re going to keep making Tacoma’s right? Lol

If you're planning to stay put for a few years then I'd highly encourage you to get out of renting. Be smart about your home purchase.. think about what you can afford and what has the best chance of appreciating (as opposed to an emotionally attached factor.) I don't know your location (housing market) or your income (tax situation) but it is highly likely you'll save a bunch of money with your home interests deductions and you'll be building equity. I wish I would've jumped on the home ownership train a decade earlier than I did.

My average annual rent (when I was renting in the 90s and early 00s) was $16,800 annually.. just gone forever. My home ownership experiences ( 3 different homes) have been much different.. I haven't made a shaitload of $$$ buying and selling real-estate but I've lived in nicer space and [in my calculations] rent free / broke-even.

Buy the home and a beater. The record setting mortgage rates are another good reason to pull the trigger now. We might be at the top of a realestate cycle but I wouldn't be overly concerned about that if you can stay put for a few years. Just take your time, pick a winner and if you're handy you can build a lot of sweat equity in your new-to-you castle. Good luck.

Thanks for the financial lesson, I have a spreadsheet of my long term goals for house buying and all that. Selling the truck and having that liquid cash available for a house would be killer and allow me the freedom to get a decent down payment, cover closing costs if need be and still have a fair emergency fund.

If Tacoma’s ceased to existed or went up to $50,000 after this whole COVID thing I would not try and sell it and just drive it into the ground.

But not having to rent is the main reason I’m into this. Home ownership is a little frightening and not something I plan to jump into immediately after selling the truck, but is certainly in the cards since as you mentioned the rates are so low.

 

More back seat room than Tacoma. More space between the front of the seats and the back of the front seats..Seats 5 adults.
The RTL-E trim is leather on seats and seatback.

 

They operate on cash buy figure than either cut a check or apply it to a purchased vehicle. VEY easy business action. FAr better than a dealer. I NEVER trade on another vehicle I always sell mine first through Carvana or others, THEN buy another I won't let them work the trade into the buy p[rice. ALWAYS sell the trade to the dealership then work a deal. Been doing that for years, I only traded back in the days when I didn't have as many financial options.

THe best way to get paid is through your bank's routing number and your account number. The money is available next day...or you can get a check and wait for it to clear.

 

MIne went up a Thousand when I resubmitted it. See the first offer? I let it expire because I was still in research mode, Then I resubmitted it and the offer went up a grand. Maybe they thought the reason they up is because I let it expire

 

I don't know how true that its. My truck was modified suspension to level it and had window tint. They still made the better offer..

She explained there is a huge difference between a lift and a level.3" Lifts will bring a lot less money as they are harder to sell.. I don't know too many people that wants to buy a heavily modified truck. You don't know where it's been I wouldn't buy a truck that's been in the mud. Or anything from up North. Vehicles down here rust-free forever unless you live on the beach

 

A lot of people are buying from Carvana.......1st they are more than fair.2. Easy shop from home, easy process beginning to end.
The process is much easier and shorter than waiting for a manager to "appraise" your truck. I was looking for a trade with them but they didn't have anything I wanted.I was more surprised and their price for My Ranger.....Thought about it a week then pulled the trigger.

 

On a $43400 Honda.....That's a cheap lease. I refused the Honda Lease at 5.6% interest. So they found another source that cut that rate in half and LOWER residual for when I decide to keep or lease another. US bank got the business.

 

You should have pulled off the tonneau cover and sold it on craigslist
