Here's a hot take: Coming from Chevys, I like how I don't feel anxious about my Tacoma breaking down on me.

I've been a Tacoma fanboy since I could tell the difference between a car and a truck. My needs take me to mountains for hiking, snowboarding, camping, national parks, so on and so forth. I wanted something reliable with a long history of being reliable. I didn't need a work truck even though I can get by in my Tacoma. I'm hauling snowboards, camping gear, and ass in my truck not loads of wood gravel or soil. I'm not really towing anything either.

As for how other people see it... People keep saying I have a lesbian truck (but I don't see how that is an insult) even though those same people need me to do shit for them with my truck all the time.

I think Tacomas are universally viewed as the "coolest midsize truck" which definitely makes you feel good when you pull up next a Frontier at a stoplight. The popularity on an already popular truck has completely skyrocketed over the last few years but even though you see other Tacomas all over the road, it still kind of feels like a club because Tacoma owners generally care about their vehicle much more than your average car owner in my experience.

Don’t know about how I feel when I’m seen in a Tacoma. But I’ve received many compliments on my truck either at work, at the store, etc.

but I will say my aftermarket exhaust makes me look like a douche when I try to pass somebody :anonymous:

Im 60....Ive been through my van phase in high school, my lifted truck phase when I was a working Man, my motorcycle phase all through life and now my retirement phase.
The taco reminds me of them all wrapped in one vehicle. Coulda have been driving around in some sensible sedan but the taco reminds me of my youth.

Same here on the compliments. I get asked one question a lot too. "Did you have it painted that color"?

I live in Texas and here Tacomas are well received, especially as they are built in San Antonio (At least for now anyway). People are aware of the reliability of Toyotas in general, and there is a Tacoma at every intersection, so it is more of a question as to why you didn't buy a Tacoma if you are looking at a mid sized truck.

Owning: It is my metaphorical gold watch for all the work years driving cheap clunkers & wheezers. I bought this thing to be "that old guy who washes his truck every week". In a parking lot I still walk up and think "damn, that looks sharp".

Driving: Bang, boom, zoom -- It is a blast, manual shift with the Sport suspension, smile every mile -- on a road trip it keeps me interested, on my game, in touch with the road. Driving is one of the few things I do just for my own enjoyment, to go 100 miles for a burger and go home makes perfect sense to me, I enjoy driving this truck.

Being seen: Don't give a crap, my "notice me" (dumb ass) days were long ago with Thrush mufflers and air shocks.

OH, those glass packs and air shocks. Buddy of mine had a 67 GTA Ford Fairlane with Keytsone Classics and air shocks. He used to make us all get out of the car when he pumped em up at the local gas station.

Like many members here, I'm a practical dude with practical concerns.

I doubt anyone buys a Tacoma because of how it makes them feel. You feel like you're driving an over-priced, somewhat under-powered midsize truck, which is exactly the reality of the situation. There's nothing about that experience that'll make you say "wow."

The otherwise unremarkable feeling and experience is overwhelmed by one huge positive, and it's the reason most people here buy a Taco. They are go-f*ck-yourself reliable, to the point where getting raked with small arms fire doesn't stop them (seen it firsthand). They're also pretty easy to maintain, which contributes to their longevity and reliability.

So yeah, there is some feeling associated with driving a Tacoma. I'd hazard a guess and say most of us here don't pay it enough attention to even notice. We focus on staying up-to-date on maintenance and the odd modification to continue getting a return on investment.

Well I prefer taking my friends trucks on biking trips because they are way more roomy and comfortable (crew cab ram/sierra) I definitely dont wish I owned either considering the problems they are having lol. I like the low maintenance cost of owning a Toyota. Plus the off road capability's.

Depends on where you live in the country Toyota is a Japanese brand & is better than other brands just a fact but you have people who look down on you for driving a Toyota instead of the Big 3 GM ford & Dodge on that note.Tacoma is a Great! Truck for daily driving if you like manual it’s the only truck you can get with a MT fun to Drive in any condition off road & on so the choice is easy good luck.
