I can say that the Ruthenium's are a huge improvement on my truck and I got 15.4 mpg running 70mph or 2600 rpm on my way to MT and coming home I ran 80 mph or 2900 and it dropped to 12.3 mpg. So to get those crazy good numbers, what speed and/or rpm are you running. I am pretty sure i just need taller tires to compensate for the low gears and get my rpm down! Or I need RIPP coils now too.

Honestly, when I regeared to 4.88's it made a bigger difference in daily driving than the supercharger. I was on 285/75R16's and now on 285/75R17's and want to go to 35's to loose a few more rpm at freeway speeds. But yes, factory gears and 35's are killing you. I felt a difference when I went from 18 lbs wheels to 28 lbs wheels. Even with the 4.88's. I can't even imagine the difference with factory 3.73's and the extra weight of your tires. Not to mention the added height too. I bet your effective gear ratio is close to 3.55 if not much higher.

I have one that was made for the TRD supercharger I had on my '98 Tacoma somewhere. A group of us had a batch made and I am not sure if anyone ever did get them installed after all the other things needed make it work. And on that engine, there wasn't much really. Lol. I think it was like 1/4" or 3/8" thick. Now I want to go find it.

I bet 4.88 on 285/75/17 must feel crazy. I did 4.56 on 285/70/17 and had an OV Tune and I thought it was awesome. Then went to heavy 315 KM3s and the supercharger is close to the same setup. prob faster but the gearing and tune was a big improvement (this is also before my swing out and 315 on the back). I may go down to 285/75/17 or even the Kenda 35/10.5's next.

Holy crap all caught up again after life and work getting crazy busy and being 70 pages behind! Want to comment on lots of stuff wrote months ago but knew it wasn't pertinent to the current posts now.

But I do have a huge question now. Right now I have the spec.U headers and the spec.U equal length exhaust cut off right after the axle and pointing down. My truck is too loud to talk in when going down the highway at 70 or faster. So I am looking at having a shop do a custom setup with a new large body muffler and then up and over the axle and a resonator and then out the side all while getting over the hammer hanger cross bar, under the frame and then back up to the bumper with the bedside cut up high. Anyway I was bid out at $800 and they want to use a 3" muffler but then go down to 2.5 to help with snaking the rest through all the shit I have back there. What size should I go with for the muffler? Stick with 3" or just do it all in 2.5? Or tell them no I need it 3" all the way out? I want to keep my performance, but I also want it quiet. Like extra quiet. I want to be able to talk in the truck again. What is everyone here using? And yes a roost pipe would be amazing and it may happen one day but now I need quiet.

Keg muffler off a Dodge Ram. I’d keep it 3”.

I actually just took my truck in today to get 4:56’s today. Was thinking of doing 4:88 but I guess 4:56’s put me close to stock gearing with my 35’s and I drive a lot of highways so I figured a little lower rpms would be better

I recently went up to 285/75/17 Nittos and it wrecked my fun with the boost. I’m betting this is what makes people want a S/C so badly. I popped mine on at 500 miles so I’ve never know the truck without it but I have to regear now. It’s just not cutting it, it in my Smiles per mile stats.

man they made that much of a difference in sound in the cab? I just bout a set, but I have sound deadened my floor, doors and back walls as well. Hoping that will help when I install the headers upon arrival. Have you done that yet?

how’s it feel? I actually debating going as y’all as 4.30’s. I need the regear as states above but 4.88’s would crush my DD and as much as I mash the pedal it wouldn’t do my rpms any good lol

I went to 4.56 with my old 285’s and loved it. Gained about 1mpg back so long as I wasn’t driving too hard or too fast. Daily’d the truck like that for 3yrs before jumping to 35’s. Technically 4.30 is closer to stock but it’s an expensive mod to have to do twice so I went big. Still worked good for 35’s as well but I want 5.29 now that I’m on 37’s and it’s not a dd

I feel the 285/75r17 are an ideal tire size for the Tacoma. Cab mount chop, flatten the pinch weld, adjustable upper control arms and I can still run front mudflaps(rokblokz), required since I live off gravel roads. I have the 6spd on 3.73. I can cruise at 80 then drive the Alpine loop and Black Bear pass, Pearl Pass and all those well known trails in CO without issue. Would like 4.10 or 4.30 but keep my rear elocker... Not sure if that is possible? I'd like 4lo to be lower/ slower for more precise control. If I go bigger it would be to 37s, not sure the 34 to 35 step would be worth the trouble. That would be once truck retires from DD.

Definitely able to keep the factory locker and those are awesome trails. Was just there last month. In my opinion, the jump to 4.10 or 4.30 isn’t big enough to make it worth the expense. 4.56 will make 4Lo awesome on 285’s

Can the eLocker be put in 4.56 gear set? I'm new to this area of mods...

Yep. They are just changing the ring and pinion gears. Nothing with the carrier which is what houses the locking mechanism. That’s what I have in my truck currently is 4.56 with the factory locker

How many miles do you have with that setup and how's your factory locker holding up? I've only run mine on sand but when I do it's full time with locker-anytime mod while im on the dunes. Seems to be holding up well so far.

I feel ya there. the S/C is great but with the weigh of my truck and 315's def felt a difference. 4.56 on 285/70 was great. I had a tune on it as well. I would only suggest 4.88 to anyone if they are going 35+. I had debated it but was not sure on the jump.I should have known better but even then 4.56 is not bad but 4.88 would have been way better (AT setup) If you are MT then 4.56 will be very nice. 4.3 wold prob be more like the 4.56 setup on the AT. My buddy runs 4.3 non S/C and says its been great with 35's.
