I will be borrowing this design, even though your drawing is not to scale.

    Isn't that a Yaseu FTM-400XDR?

Which is Japanese, so not sure what you are referring to here.
I was referring to the L (turned backwards) that appears to be hand drawn.

It’s easy enough to add a GPS to the 710. I think that’s the only difference between the two models.

How essential should it be to check swr/power on a mobile store bought setup? I have a stock length cable, not ideally located nmo mount comet sbb-5 antenna, connected with a superbat sma-uhf adapter.

@Sandman614 if you are sure of your NMO ground and coax connectors, it is not necessary. I would suggest at least checking continuity from the PL-259 connector at the radio to the NMO threads and truck body with no radio or antenna connected. Same for the center conductor. And make sure you don't have continuity between the shield and center. This won't assure good impedance matching but it will check for most installation problems.

If you seem to have tx/rx issues, get a nanovna.

$45 and lots of learning to be had. I need to figure out how to wire this monster.

I'm not having any issues that are apparent and the local repeater can hear me, was just thinking.

I hope it's more straight forward and clear than figuring out this serial-Bluetooth adapter. The adapter is a chinese knockoff, the ftdi serial to usb programming adapter is a Chinese knockoff that apparently windows drivers will brick, and Yaesu(ftm-400xdr) uses rs232(+/-12v) serial while the Bluetooth adapter uses TTL(3.3v) rs232 serial. Lots of little gotchas and nuances involved.

 after several hours of playing with stupid Fedora live usb without persistent storage I turned around and used my wife's Mac to change the Bluetooth name...

I try to check the V/Uhf mobile antenna at least once a year. I bang it on everything. It takes less then 5 min with antenna analyzer.
    Boom Set for another year.
