Yeah I'm just wondering when the latest one was released, just to get an idea if it would have been available when I got my update done.

There were a few TSBs, all attached to the ECU Update thread 1st Post. They started making the rounds in the middle of 2018.

The OVT software or the OBD Fusion and Carista apps will tell you the ECU ID.

This has me intrigued. I’d like to do it but jeez it does sound like a PIA. Did OP get his recent issue fixed? That kinda stuff is what scares me.

More than a few thousand folks have OVT. Considering that, take a peek at the OVT Reviews sticky and ratio up the tally.

That will help you get a real feel for the overall satisfaction.

I have no doubt I’d like it. I’ve looked at some of the big threads, just the install part getting codes, emails back and fourth, messing with the trucks “brains” kinda freaks me out that I’d screw up and mess up the install and be stuck trying to fix it. I don’t find my truck underivable at all, but I know there’s more in there that could be accessed. I’ve never messed with tuning anything electronically.

The fuel mileage and possibility of it being better for the power train is also of interest to me. I drove my 4Runner for almost 12 years and plan to keep this as long or hopefully longer.

Same here, and it is the case with most of the folks with OVT. Never flashed anything. Toyota just left us with no choice.

It sounds like you are doing the right thing, reading. Yeah, it's gonna feel uncomfortable the first couple times, but the flash software is solid and reliable. The troubles you are hearing about are just a licensing glitch on the server side.

Just find someone in your area that has done all the work and research and investment and pay them. Going rate is $250. Then you won’t have to worry about messing anything up.

I got bored last week and ordered everything, already had the Tatrix.

Flashed it today after searching my spam file. It went well and is well worth it.

    this and that...
@subrat: thats awesome man. yeah we have a lot of tacos over here, and i mean a lot. but you know hawaii boys is all about that high and wide life. even on the forums we have tacos running rampant, but everyone is all overlanding and wheeling. dont get it twisted, i can appreciate anyone who puts time into their build. just for me? i like street trucks. i had three tacos: xrunner, trd offroad, and this one. all of em were built different. xrunner was hammered, and had all the bolt ons. i loved that truck. trd offroad was all about that lifted life. i liked the truck, but deep down it just wasnt really my style. thats why when i ended up buying a taco again, i was saddened to hear that 3rd gen had no street truck variant like the xrunner. so i opted for a sport with the emphasis that it was gonna be a sport oriented build. if im being honest right now? this truck as is feels quicker than how my xrunner felt with full bolt ons (trd intake, doug thorley headers, urd ypipe, custom fm super 44 with 3" piping, coupes custom trd s/s.) i was gonna go blown but my girl ended up pregs and access cab just wasnt gonna cut it; you know how that goes. its funny cause its not like im blitzing like a bat outta hell everywhere i go, if you see me around you would probably complain that i drive like a grandpa lol. i just like having power on tap; being agile if you will.

Any Chicago people in here with OVtune? A friend of mine is a college IT prof, I'm sure any problems I encounter could be fixed through him. Thinking about ordering some stuff, probably start with Tactrix cable thing. Dealer wouldn't turn off the seatbelt chime cause "liability", meanwhile they have yet to fix the fuel pump recall that could cause a power failure lol. I still don't see how / why Toyota would tune the truck the way they did if there is the ability to increase fuel economy with a better tune which would lead to both a better driving experience and higher efficiency.

If my buddy wants to tune his 3rd gen, do I just buy credits and get the right tunes for his ECU ID? As in, I can do that for him for $75 worth of credits instead of him having to pay $750 for the full setup? Do the fellas at @OVTune care if we do that? I want to respect their IP and effort to make this product (I am a software engineer myself). Seems like that is how their new pricing model works though - they don't say anything about the other truck being one you own or someone else owns. I imagine that is how all the local shops do their tunes for other 'customers' that bring them their trucks?

Hah, I am from SE Iowa near Burlington. My friend that lives in Des Moines is here in Denver at my place right now... he has a '17 MT taco... he might seek you out to get his tuned! Do you know any other Taco bros in the Des Moines area that could hook him up with a tune?

I've read through all of the posts for this topic, but I'm still not sure.... In addition to reflashing the ECU and manipulating the AT shift points for better drive-ability through the available tunes, does vFtune also provide the capability to do speedometer correction for non stock tire sizes?

Not at this time. The speedo is controlled in a different ECU.

The tires size and gearing tunes only affect AT shift points and speedo limits.

In that case, can you use a Hypertech Speedo Calibrator at the same time as an Engine/Trans tune or will they clash in some way? It sounds like this should work, but don't know if anyone has tried it successfully or unsuccessfully.
