That’s pretty good MPG, when we came down from Canada a couple years ago I averaged about 8 MPG pulling out little trailer. I have regeared the truck since then and it’s a lot better.

 

That's about the MPG we get at 65 (around 10-11) so you're doing good.

I bought mine from the dealer that sold me the trailer. It is a Round Bar E2 Hitch. I def can back up with it connected. If that is not the case for all of them, make sure you get one that can. You 3600 dry? Just trying to figure out the sweet spot for these trucks and I was thinking about that weight dry.

I use this on my NOBO 19.5 and love it. Built in sway control, easy set up and you can back up.

 

Yeah, 3600 dry. Towed 2,000 miles over 2 weeks this summer. Up to northern Washington and back from the Bay Area. Wasn't a problem, I got used to cruising around 55-60 MPH.

 

Drug home our new NOBO 19.5 today. This is our first travel trailer also. Sept 3rd is the maiden voyage to Utah from Houston.

 

Well that sure is a prom night maiden voyage! Gonna learn all the good and bad in one go.

Yea, not exactly what I wanted for the first trip but my wife insists. I still have a RTT in route that’s supposed to arrive next week which was the original plan but my wife ain’t bout that life so we ended up with this.

We spent about 2 weeks researching them. I finally found a few in stock about an hour from us. We got to check out a 16.6, 19.3, 19.5 and 19.6. We wanted the 19.3 but unfortunately both were sold. The 19.6 was a little more than what we wanted to pay. The 16.6 was nice but for about $400 more we ended up with the 19.5

 

Hello everyone. Brand new to the forums here. I've been lurking around for a while and thought it was time to get everyone's input on the towing capabilities of my 3rd gen tacoma, TRD off road with the towing package. Here is the trailer my wife and I purchased. It's listed at 1200 lbs fully loaded, 100 lbs. tongue weight and stands 76" tall at the highest point from the ground. I have no doubts that my tacoma will pull this with no problems but curious what you folks think about longer distance traveling and towing. i live in western NC and will be looking to head out west next summer on an extended vacation. Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, etc. All opinions are welcomed

 

Let us know how it all went. When I bought my Tacoma (Jan) and camper (June) in 2016 I took them both from Cincinnati, OH to Silverton, CO 2 weeks after I bought the camper. Trial by fire!

 

I wouldn't see how you would have any issues long distance towing. If you had their base model with the pizza cutter wheels I'd tell you to make sure you have spares on hand but with those 35 M/Ts you won't have any issues. I wonder how those mini overland trailers are with cross winds? Just because they're so light and obviously not very aero. I know snowmobile trailers can be sketchy given the right crosswinds.

 

thanks for the info. I’m curious as well. As of now I don’t plan on doing a sway bar or trailer brakes. This trailer fully loaded is only slightly heavier than my 5x8 loaded to the hilt with firewood lol. However I don’t have any cross wind issues carrying firewood. I do plan on getting a spare very soon. The tires on the trailer are 35’s but with the spare I will most likely under size the spare a bit

 

I have a teardrop with street tires, but I get zero sway from crosswinds. Yours sits a little higher than mine, but I bet you get almost none as well. As far as towing...my trailer is maybe 1500lbs with everything loaded and the Tacoma pulls it easily. When I get into hill country I switch over to shifting manually and keep it out of 6th. When i'm on long rolling hills, I keep it in drive and never feel under-powered. I try to remember to keep the ECT on, but I sometimes forget after fillups. You're going to have a blast pulling it with that truck and the trailers are so easy to use. Enjoy!

 

I tow 3800 plus a full 50 gallon water tank no issues. Comfortable tow. Full hitch and sway

 

Awesome thanks for the encouragement. Can I ask what your take is on the slightly under sized spare? I’ve seen mixed reviews. Those reviews mostly mention under sized spares on their main vehicles. I figure since I’ll only be needing to go a short distance until I can get a flat tire fixed it shouldn’t pose any real issues

Im using the recurve R3 WDH. I’ve really enjoyed it and it’s a all in one hitch. No chains to mess with and the anti-sway is built in so nothing to disconnect extra.
