So here’s what’s happening, I had a trans rebuild awhile back maybe 2-3 years and everything has been fine no issues but my cooler lines started leaking and I replaced the hoses so some fluid came out there plus whatever from leaking my best guess would be a quart. Two things happened. First when I went to refill the trans after the repair I pulled the check plug and it started streaming out. This is with a cold transmission! From my understanding you’re supposed to fill them do they trans hearing process them pull the plug until a trickle. Has it been too full this whole time?? I haven’t even replaced the stuff that came out from the repair yet. Should I drain it cold out of the check port until a trickle then go through the heating process?

Second it seems as though there could be seepage from the check plug too so maybe a new crush washer? Thanks!

    Yes.

I agree about the dipstick. Another reason to get a 2.7 liter...

I fully agree about the dipstick issue on the 4.0 but why would you want a grade school ballplayer (2.7 liter) when you can have a professional athlete (4.0 liter) on your team for gosh sakes?

At least on the Gen 2.5’s the fluid temp should be 97-115. When I did mine without running it the pan temp was 98. So I pulled the check bolt and fluid came out. If it’s hot outside even if the fluid sat overnight the fluid may still be warm. Let it drain and see what happens.

Make sure the engine is running when you pull the check plug.

Easy. I don't have to worry about:

    1.) Adjusting valves.
2.) Engine immobilizer not reading the key chip.
    3.) Excessive ticking.
4.) Pulling the heads to replace a knock sensor or repair the wires.
    5.) Blown head gaskets.
6.) Twice the number of cats and O2 / AF Sensors to fail.
    7.) Leaking timing cover.

I'm sure there are many more.........................

Hitch and wiring, aux back-up light, rear strobe lights, radio and underseat sub.
240k on my 2.7. Still had to replace the valve cover gasket, and rear main seal, steering rack, frame, cat, lol
Still easier to work on than the 4.0!

    I had a 2004 2.4L 4 banger Tacoma before acquiring the 2015 Tacoma 4.0L.

That little 4 banger did everything the 4.0L does that I need. Only reason I got rid of the grade school ballplayer was the wife. Little guy didn't have a lot of interior room.
I didn't bother looking into engine options when I bought the 4.0L. Seemed like a good fit - drove well during the test drive/etc., but looking back a 2.7L would do me just fine.

4cyl engines were awesome when Tacoma’s were a compact pickup truck. I loved mine.

4cyl Engines are not so awesome when the Tacoma is the size of a first gen tundra.

I drove a go-cart at a local track and it had the 2.4L in it. So it must be a good engine :bananadance:
