I would say about 1 in every 500, usually its trucks that are over due for oil changes.

Seems like its not that common. 2nd gens had similar issue. But definetily a good idea to keep your eye on it.

I change my oil every 5k, makes me sleep better at night. Just saying.

Am I the only one who wonders about the longevity of an 8 feet timing chain?o_O

The 2nd gen 4.0's stretch over time, so far I've only seen this on one 2GR from a highlander. Toyotas are stout as fuck.

Tundras use 2 seperate chains, its actually way harder to set up. The 2GR/1GR is cake to set up. You can actually see the yellow timing mark in my photo.

Thx for posting the pics. Do you know if other 3.5L engines in camry's and siennas are having the same issue?

Yes, again it's usually neglect and way overdue oil changes.

I've done every year of 2GR reseal, but 2015 was a sticky year for it. I've never done a camry 3.5 but they are rare up where I am. Mostly rav4, highlander and sienna 2gr.

My old 84 4 banger skipped a cog when the chain guides died, at least it was an easy repair job.

I had a boss intentionally skip a chain for me to show me what happens, it was an old Nissan wagon. Sounded awful, straight to the wrecker.

What's customer pay like 25 hours? I hated that shit, warranty pay 3 hours, customer pay 7 hours for same job.

Thx, yeah it looks like the 3.5L is in everything. Even noticed many Lexus are 3.5L and they tuned them down to 260hp, but not sure if it's the same engine.

Customer pay would probably be 24 hours ya. We win and lose. This one I may break even, but a young tech will suffer badly.
