3rd gen 5 speed manual drivers, I have a question for you. Have you noticed a decrease/delay in power/torque since you bought your trucks? recently in the past couple of months or so I have noticed it in mine, have you noticed it in yours? if so, have you done or resolved anything to help it? Basically whats been happening is when i drive through town especially on the freeways I noticed I have been having to shift to lower gears more often than I ever have to keep my speed, i thought it was in my head because there were times when i feel like I could notice it and times when I could not, but when I would drive on super steep hills (I live in San Francisco) I noticed first gear wasn't giving me the power as fast as it used to. Usually, when I would release the clutch pedal completely and be on the gas flooring it, the truck would just go, full throttle right away. Now, when I do that, it takes my truck a few moments to gain its torque and rpms causing a very slow feeling increase in speed on really steep hills. this is annoying because now i need to be on the clutch a tad longer to get myself rolling, which i hate because I want to save the clutch. My truck only has about 45,000 miles on it, so not sure why this would happen? Or is it just normal? Yes, I know I drive a 4 cylinder and it doesn't have as much power as a V6, i get that, but it wasn't always like this. Any info from people who drive the same truck is me is greatly appreciated, thank you. Its a 2017 by the way.

No. I don't believe it is. All the gears shift smoothy and it is not slipping at all.

Plus, the truck only has about 45,000 miles on it, cant see a reason why the clutch would go bad prematurely

Regarding going up hills - do you typically engage e-brake when stopped on an incline? Or do you do the gentle roll back while quickly adding gas?

I do both. Generally depends of how steep of a hill, or how tight my parking space is. Regardless, the problem Im experiencing is exactly the same either or method I choose to do.

Try cleaning your MAF and make sure your air filter is good

What is a MAF? Air filter has been checked and it is good to go.

Is the clutch slipping (RPM's climb while under load) when accelerating? Get into 4th or 5th gear on a grade and accelerate hard, you'll know right away if the clutch is slipping.

It’s a sensor that tells the computer how much air is going into the engine. They get dirty over time and the engine can feel sluggish. The sensor is on the intake tube next to the air filter. It’s held on by 2 small philips screws and the harness is seated on the air box. You’ll want to buy some MAF cleaner and spray it clean. Plenty of YouTube videos on how to do it. Just be sure to be gentle with it since damaging it will give you like a $150 bill

Cool, gonna look into this more and give see what happens. Do you know if this is something that would typically trigger a check engine light? Mine is not on but just curious...

No. Clutch is definitely not slipping. Low RPMs are currently my problem, not high rpms

It won’t trigger the check engine light, but you do want to clean it once in a while. i typically do mine once a year with a new air filter and the engine will feel snappier afterwards. Having a 2.7 5 spd myself I would put my money on this. Definitely worth doing

Stick in SF, I remember those days. For street cred might as well say you live on Nobb hill or Russian hill and fight for street parking every trip. Cheers to you, my fellow masochist!

Haha, no I live in the sunset. I actually love the manual in the city, nice to have control on the hills, yet this issue is has been annoying.

I sprayed my MAF down with the specific cleaner. I don’t think it made a difference. Should I expect immediate results? Or any other ideas?
