Sudden Acceleration - in a DODGE RAM!!!

So our baby sitter drives a 2010 Dodge Ram 2500. In a parking lot yesterday, he started his truck, put it in drive and !!!!!!!!!!!!! the truck took off! It went full throttle and spun the tires a bit (wet outside). He went over two curbs, barely missed a telephone pole and crashed into a barrier. Then the engine died.

Said it happened too fast to even think about what to do. He said the first second was shock, the next second is "holy shit" and it was over by the 3rd second. He's a smart enough guy to think about putting it in neutral or reaching for the keys but said you don't even have time to think like that. Instinct makes your hands grip the wheel...kinda hard to reach for the gear shifter or keys with a death grip.

Anyway, its being "investigated" right now. This was a brand new truck - fully loaded. It was F'n beautiful! Unfortunately, it no longer looks like that.

well... it looks like the truck fixed itself.... no more sudden acceleration

 

DAMN! did toyota make the gas pedal? glad he wasn't hurt and your daughter wasn't in there.

That's what rams do best. Charge at ungodly speeds toward immovable objects.

My buddy was able to take out two back yard fences and stopped when he hit a stone fountain in his Dodge Ram, lucky because if it wasn't there he would've hit the house.

but this was 4 ish years ago. He was DUI n arrested

 

The Dodge Rams into the barrier. Isn't that whay it's named a Ram? J/K Glad no one was hurt. That's really freeky!

 

Everyone already knew Dodges had problems, it was that Toyotas had a problem that it made the news..LOL

This happened to my friend 2009 dodge diesel. I was sitting shotgun and can vouch for him. We were driving to a restaurant for a wedding rehearsal dinner and there is a downhill section. Suddenly it felt like he floored it. In my head I was thinking "Damn your crazy, I guess were going for a ride" All of a sudden he was reaching down trying to pull up his pedal. He couldn't so he tried to shift into neutral and went passed into park, that didnt' sound good for the tranny at all. He said the pedal left his foot like and dropped to the floor. I dont' think it ever happened again, nor do I think he took it in.

Same truck, different accident

 

Sorry to post and run yesterday.

No...our sitter is a chick...and actually a pretty good looking one at that. Her husband is a family friend and a renowned fly-fisherman.

Anyway, he did stomp on the brake but the truck was already revved too high and it did nothing. I think the truck is fixable but I would be cautious stepping into that thing! Although it is like a freaking tank and chances are good that it will just run over anything in it's way.

As the former owner of a Dodge Ram that hydrolocked in a mud-hole, I am not a fan of the brand. That POS got crappy gas mileage and cost me more in repairs than I paid for the thing.

 

Glad nobody was hurt. I had a Dodge Ram for several years, never had anything like that happen but I do know, the amount of 'computer controls' involved in some of these newer vehicles is scary. The one I owned was an 04. It wouldn't surprise me that some of these computer controls go haywire.
I never met a computer setup that didn't go haywire once in a while.

I hope the dealership takes care of EVERYTHING with no questions asked (and no headaches for you)
