What are you paying for 2020 Tacomas?

I hear you. As we know, the house always wins. The dealer always figures out a way to make their money. Forums like this where info is shared helps a lot. But at the end of the day, and I hate to say this, it is only money. Now, I wouldn't pay over MSRP for any car. But you know what? I don't judge anyone that does. Fair amount of people work their ass off for their money and if they want to spend it more power to them. As a certain point, the difference between 13 percent off and 5 percent off is nothing compared to getting on and enjoying your life.

Agree. If I was a dealer. I'd swap out the front fender or a regular one, sell the DAI to cover the costs and call it a day.
At least then you could move the truck.

Desert Air Intake, aka the "snorkel".

Calling it a snorkel would imply it is for water crossings, but in fact it is not water tight and doesn't help with that at all. It is simply to get the air intake up higher to help when being used in the desert where a lot of sand and dust might be getting kicked up.

But people call it a "snorkel" because it looks like one.

 

Yea market is crazy right now. It’s a sellers market. The people that purchased last year or prior can make a nice profit. I’m surprised more people purchase a Tacoma over a tundra at these prices, for around the same money or a few bucks more someone can buy a tundra. I do think a Tacoma is easier for off-roading and better for the trails so I can understand those reasons.

 

I know, right? I am a total idiot. I upgraded because my 2005 Access Cab was finally getting too tight for me, the wife, the kid and a dog -- with hopes of another dog. First few months in the TRD OR Double Cab were heaven. Now it feels cramped. . I was looking at doing a deal, trading in the truck, and moving on to a Tundra. I probably won't do it but I was just looking at the opportunity to do it. Most people would prefer the space of the Tundra -- but it doesn't look as cool as the Tacoma, admittedly. But I think the real reason people don't go with the Tundra is that for a lot of the trails it is too big. The Tacoma is tighter and built to get into most trails. However, for someone like me, 80 to 90 percent highway driving and 10% off road on rough / rocky but not narrow trails the interior space might be worth it.

I'll probably stay with what I have since I don't buy a new car in less than 10 years (and I just got the Tacoma) but you are right. For a lot of people, with prices what they are, and deals to be had on the Tundra, it could make sense. Unless you are a hard core off roader.

 

Some people just don't have a need for a huge truck and prefer a smaller vehicle for driving in the city, daily driving, parking, actually fitting in their garage, etc.

Of course, you are right. My truck is not my daily driver. I just use it on the weekends. Everything you say it right on ... but the older you get the more comfort you want ... I have never actually driven a Tundra to get a feel for how much bigger it really drives. I might do that. I admit I am weak. . I just sat in one and started thinking about the space ... the glorious space ...

 

That's part of the reason I'm keeping my 2014 TRD. just hit 100K and plan to keep for at least 100K more. ...Plus I love changing the oil on this model. The new filter placement looks like a PITA.

 

I dont think I'll be buying a new tacoma anytime soon... mine is a 09... I bought it brand new Sept 18, 2008... coming up 12 yrs already... damn... but I like a manual tacoma next time around thou!

 

I think the manual transmission option is wonderful for the 3rd gen, I wish more trucks offered it. If I could have found a low mileage clean 2nd gen like a 2014-2015 than I would have kept that for 10years plus. I wanted to like the 3rd gen but the transmission/engine was a real negative for me. The tundras are huge trucks, they are not great for tight spaces and parking. I like the tundras for the same reason I like the 2nd gen Tacoma’s, they are simple and proven. I’m afraid they will ruin the tundra when they do a redesign and possibly change the motor/trans.

 

Plus some people end up in a situation where their daily ride is no more (mechanical, accidents) and needs to be replaced and don't have the luxury of taking their time negotiating.

 

I was at the dealer today and they only had 2 Tacoma’s. They typically have about 40. Was told I could trade mine in for about what I bought it for 6 months ago.

 

It was totally how he kept trying to defend his position then resort to name calling

 

I'm not gonna lie, I've been looking at the RAM 1500. I know the reliability can be sketchy, but damn for about the same price I can get a full sized Built-to-Serve model in battle ship gray with all the of goodies

 

I also have looked, they are probably the best looking full-size right now (though I like the new 2021 F150, waiting on the new Tundra before I move to a fullsize). Neighbor has driven ram's for years, swears by them.
