Very true!!! That's the reason trailers have that flimsy little bumper that hangs down .

I have some ideas for the way I want to do mine but after seeing your posts about it and reading through your build thread I want to incorporate something similar too. I'm going to be watching closely to see what you come up with:thumbsup:

Thanks. I'm still playing with how to mount it. I need something easy to take off for wheeling, and easy to put back on for the highway when the truck is covered in frozen mud.

Eh, I personally don’t see that as a big deal. I gained exactly 4” by cutting that thing off. Sure that makes a big difference off-road but when it comes to rear ending a Honda Civic.

4" of clearance/approach angle. And you replaced it with a smooth sheet of steel. That means you're now hitting the crash structure of another car with the smooth part of your bumper.

I'm more worried about head on or front end T-Bone than rear ending; and after my truck got hit last winter I'm more worried, not less. A little farther forward on the other car and I'd have been over her hood, not punting it down the road.

It's a pretty specific concern, and mostly only matters if you drive in city traffic, but the danger to other cars is something we need to consider as we make bigger/higher/heavier trucks.

In my opinion that consideration goes out the window once we put a steel front bumper on because we’re eliminating our crumple zone. Pre tummy tuck I still had a steel front bumper and a large, angled plate of steel there. The safety difference between that and 4” higher mounting plate for the skid is negligible.

You've still got the crumple zone on the front frame, which is pretty crumply. I don't have that anymore, since it got bent beyond all repair.

:popcorn:after pricing and looking at a lot of others out there and what others have spent in getting the max performance out of theirs that's not a horrible price at all.

That's a shockingly low number. I guess life is easier when you start by throwing the front half of the truck in the recycling.

I had pelfrey skids on mine....sold them after I put on the LCA kit. Mid skid didnt have a single scrape on it so i'm not worried about losing that one anyways...IFS skid was pretty beat...hopefully with the steel skid and the extra clearance from the JD fab skid i wont be hitting it anymore..or as much.. I've got a pelfrey steel bumper...thats going away soon for a tube pre runner bumper and ditching that lower crash bar..gona just hope for the best when on the streets with it

The biggest bottle neck right now is waiting for shocks... both King and Fox are taking longer than usual because of the cold that’s going around

    Rando morning thought:

the 2nd gen lower control arms are the same as 3rd gens except the rear bushings have a larger inner diameter, right? So couldn't the 2nd gen kit be used on a 3rd gen assuming the 3rd gen owner used 2nd gen lower control arms?

My reasoning for this is that Whiteline makes LCA bushings for 2nd get LCAs but not 3rd gens (they are "coming soon" supposedly), and they are supposedly better than OEM bushings by a long shot.

I think he made the appropriate changes so that they will have a 3rd gen specific kit available. But if you’re gonna go that route then yes, get a 2nd gen kit and the appropriate parts

This is assuming the frame is the exact same otherwise. The second gen kit would have to locate properly onto the third gen frame.

true. I will wait for OP to answer. I believe he previously stated it fits perfect, the only difference is the rear cam diameter is larger on the 3rd gens.

The frame is exactly the same the only difference is the rear bushings are larger on the 3rd gen. You can swap bushing back and forth between the two trucks and I have both bushing size kits available.

Currently I’ve done press-in inserts for the OEM arms that use the same sealed uniball that the LT kit has, way better than any squeaky bushings and has zero deflection... if I get enough people that want them I’ll make a batch.

Awesome, I knew something was larger on the rear part of the LCA on the 3rd gens.

the press-in inserts for the lowers are for 2nd gen or 3rd gen, or you can do both?
