I haven’t used tektro in a while but they would overheat super quickly and I’d lose braking power. They could be better now. To be honest all hydraulic brakes sucked back then though so maybe my bias isn’t fair anymore haha. One positive is the 200/180mm rotors.

Your point is valid, relatively heavier bike and the reviews I watched said of the very few things the bike might need upgrading (if you ride hard) are the brakes.

Already happened last year. Once they closed the lifts at the resorts, several resorts' parking lots were still filled, with uphill riders. Had to shut that shit down 'cause no-one was following distancing protocols.

That's what makes me most nervous. Very few newbies to be BC think about it, and think it's as safe as in-bound resort riding. I don't want anyone getting buried, but I certainly don't want some dipshit cutting a slope above me and burying me.

I mean, I'm sure you now... But that pic of drive-by restocks is at B-right-On. That's my home resort (when I used to live there). Man do I miss those days, and that snow, and that terrain, and the people...

Our pic from the ice-sculpture contest (20 years ago!) is still at Molly's. Five of the people in that old pic, were in the top one taken last year :)

Yeah the stumpy is a solid platform, brakes can be upgraded for a decent price so I wouldn’t worry about it too much

Also, damn you guys and your nice snow. We have ice and some fresh snow on occasion. We don’t even get the luxury of a ton of mountain biking with the constant freeze thaw

NOVA = Lame in the winter...and the rest of the year. Rest of the state is okish.

Took a quick trip to massanutten from my parents place 2 winters ago. The look of puzzlement on peoples faces when i showed up to the lift on 185x110 skis was amusing. But will all that ice, I straight up did not have a good time, bruh.

My wife's bike has High Rollers front and back. 2.5 in the front, and 2.4 in the back. She hasn't complained about them.

If you watch the pinkbike classifieds, you should be able to find new take-off brakes on there for a good price.

Quick question. Has anyone ever drilled a frame to accommodate an internally routed dropper?

I haven't done it but I've seen a few people do it. Honestly not a bad idea if it's your only option. It won't compromise the structural integrity but it will void any frame warranty you might have. If it's a carbon frame I would steer you away from any drilling as it could compromise the frame.

That's a big 10/4. There isn't a smooth way to route externally, although I could make it work. If I can route it internally without causing any weakness to the frame, that is perfect.

Nothing wrong with that brake set up for most people. The 200mm rotor is quite nice too. I started out with a new stumpy 27.5 in 2016. (Also a short old guy 5’2” 59). The stand over clearance is great on a stumpjumper also.

I miss working in the Beltway Circle, but I dont miss the Beltway. Although the look you get here in Utah when you say you used to work at the Pentagon vs the "yeah, so does everyone" look you get in Manassas is pretty entertaining.

Indeed. This is why I went the stumpy direction in the first place. I am in decent cardio shape, ok sustained strength but as you know the agility and the burst strength wonder off in your fifties......in your sixties you need to rely on brains and money...........I mean lower CG. :D

Haha fore sure. I interviewed for a job in reno and some of the people I talked to around town were like “woah really?” I take it for granted sometimes but it’s not all bad considering there is a good amount of stuff to do within a few hours.

@abacall @Bannerman - WWC ended up giving me a warranty on that tire, and sent me new one but I am running the dhr2 2.4 on the back now, Think i might go back down to the 2.3 dhf. Im wondering if Maxxis is having production issues due the a large increase in sales and maybe some of their qc is down ? I was at USNWC when mine happened and those trails are mostly (99.73 percent xc) I was pretty surprised to be honest but i guess it could happen anywhere.

    not enough.
nothing wrong with tthose brake per se. Tektro will work for a little bit but they wont' give you the confidence that SRAM's Code's or Shimano's XTR's willg ive you. Quick and dirty/cheap fix would be to swap out those resin pads for some sintered metal or ceramic. they'll be noisier but they'll have better and more consistent stopping power. the 200mm and 180mm rotors are nice provided taht they're quality rotors. the size checks out. if you wanted more stopping power, upgrading to a 200mm on the rear will work really well. (someone did a test somewhere and noticed that upgrading rotors is better for stopping power than upgrading from 2 to 4 piston brakes). These upgrades will still be cheaper than getting brand new brakes which will run at least 150-200 per side.

I saw a previous post earlier that said to watch pinkbike. that's a great suggestion for take offs. or see if your LBS has some. My honest suggestion? if you have the monies and you can find them, upgrade to sram code's. :)
