I thought it looked familiar. My cousin who worked at DPW years ago rescued a copy of the 1920s plans from the recycling and gave them to me when I was an undergrad in Architecture school. It's a pretty building.

Could be the remnants of Hurricane Genevieve that rolled through Baja last week. It could also bring more lightning.

Oh no way. Yeah the original power house is definitely well done.

They replaced it in the 1960s with a concrete bunker-esk building. All utility and no art.

There are plans to rehab the old building. Hopefully it’ll get done in my career here.

There's a book about WPA era projects in California. Pretty crazy how much went into the buildings.

There's a lot of great little features in the drawings.

My parents live there and are currently evacuated. Just talked to them. They slept at don pedro vista point last night. Don’t think the fire has affected Groveland though. Big Oak flat was in more immediate danger They are on the way to Columbia to an rv park to wait it out.

A lot of cool features like that all over the project. You could tell they had pride in what they were building.

Too much “lowest bidder” on construction projects anymore.
Hetchy crews still have a lot of pride in their work but they get relegated to maintenance mostly.

One of the telescope dudes lives up there. They evacuated toward Groveland and implied things are not so good. Shitty situation for sure.
Hope your parents are safe and they come out of this OK.

Good friend has a cabin on Caples Lake and he tells me the air quality up there sucks bad, also. They had a lightening strike up there Sunday that started a fire but was extinguished before it could get big. Close call.
    Please, no more thunderstorms.

Side note: Caples lake is a great fishery. Ice fished it earlier this year and we HAMMERED the trout. Really beautiful up there too. Hope that place doesn't go up in flames.

Indeed. I bought the exact same pontoon boat he has, and was hoping to use it up there this summer/fall. Hopefully, this shit gets over in the next few weeks and the summer isn't a total loss.

Here's some info for you guys to try and stay up to date. Fires getting a bit active but sounds like its still south of priest coulterville rd but its up to the dam at the reservoir. Winds are shifty though so there's no guarantee it won't jump north if it finds the right drainage. Mandatory Evacs are still in place.

Hoping so too. That would be awesome floating around on that lake and fishing it. Silver lake too. I have yet to catch a lake trout (Mackinaw) out of there but I hear there are some absolute giants lurking.

    Thanks.

Someone at work created a map viewer of MODUS fly overs over laid on top of an arc map of our facilities.

It definitely got up to one of our regulating reservoirs. Looks like it’s headed east towards Cobb creek. Definitely jumped though. You can see the spot on the other side of the ridge.
