Not from BB, but I have it. I managed a discount through a guy that works at MS, I think I paid $60 :spy:

Ultimate is kind of pointless unless you actually need Bitlocker. Win 7 Pro has XP mode if you need that. For the vast majority of people, Home Premium has everything needed.

Hm, I would be careful with that. being able to join a domain is sometimes really important, such as if you have a laptop that doubles as a work computer. I can't imagine it would be something you would need to connect to something like a student network, but it's worth being aware of.

Not to get off topic but people still buy stuff at best buy?

Their markup is crazy. Is Windows any cheaper from micro's website?

Just to clarify, DomainJoin is available in Professional and Ultimate. Just not Home versions.

Yeah I would never buy from BB! But I would like to return a new copy that I have :). I need to link it to a name of someone who bought it.

We were discussing Premium vs Pro vs Ultimate.

Joining a domain is something that has become more prevalent over time.

    Define "average user".
A person who is only using the computer within the home isn't going to run into such concerns.
Laptop users and students may run into needs for domain usage, they should check with their IT department or advisor.
If you are talking about a small business or larger, Pro would be more prudent. In some cases, we are facing issues with this generational hurdle. Many of my clients run software which cannot handle 64bit or anything above WinXP without a 5-digit multi-month upgrade.

All of these people use computers within an average environment.
You need to consider your deployment before being able to distribute software.

Bitlocker is actually a good feature if you want to ensure the data on your computer. If you travel with your laptop, it's a good layer of insurance. I personally run a full domain network at home, but even if I did not, I would probably use Win7 PRO (or Ultimate). Lastly, PRO and Ultimate offer additional backup scheduling features which may be helpful for some users.
