lol yea, I thought this thread with devolve by page 2, but there's only been one or two somewhat uncivil comments.

to the OP, Obviously the only person that can truly and completely weigh out the pros and cons of your situation, is you. There are a lot of factors in this type of decision, and there's no "correct vs incorrect" decision here. Its not a dichotomy, the solution exists on a spectrum of overall happiness. Its up to you to decide where your circumstances and decisions will land you! I wish the best of luck to you, and hope you get as close to the Completely Happy end of the spectrum as possible!

I'd look into the Corpus area, plenty of Refinery's that need EHS techs. Plus you're on the coast, plenty to do and see. Dallas and Ft. Worth is a good place to live in only a few instances IMO.

If you are set on moving back, a decent area here in socal will run about $635k for a 3 bedroom home.

Thanks for all the feedback guys! You guys are awesome. I have begun sending out my resume to So-Cal companies earlier this week in search of an opportunity. Having family there should make the move a little smoother, since my brother-in-law said he was willing to fly to Texas to help me drive all of our stuff to Cali.

I can purchase a new home near Temecula/Lake Elsinore for about 450k or so. Being in Texas, 450k would definitely buy me a mansion size home, but I know the appreciation of California home is much greater in the long run.

I don't blame you for leaving for 2 years haha I sometimes think of choosing a different path myself. I'm very good at telling grown man what to do and not to do, but man does it wear me down.

When I went to Irvine, the lyft driver was talking to me about house and when I told him I had 1900sqft 3bed 2 bath on a 1/4 acre he was positive it must have cost north of $500k. He didnt believe me that I paid $207k for it. Lol.

I'm not gonna lie, I love traveling. I love Texas.

But the second I'm back in CA, it just feels so good and right. Without a doubt I'd make that move. Sure, you may not have a mansion for 500k here, but you're in one of the better places in the world. 84 degrees outside in Orange County, 15 min from the beach, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I'm 4 miles from Newport, was just there this morning on a run. Absolutely beautiful once you get by the coastline or onto Balboa!

Not really, maybe in LA county, but definitely not in the Inland Empire. Inland Empire is much cheaper to be in a good area, IE has nicer people than in LA too. Just walking around stores people are so well-mannered compared to even the best parts of LA county.

    Good choices

You want your family close, and you want your homeland. I completely understand, feel, and live that. If you have that, you can make the rest work. My blood family has been brutalized over the past few years, both parents passed now, so many things I wish I could still talk to them about, but also grown in new awesome directions with half of my inlaws.

Don't have regrets. Time will catch up, the chance will be gone.
