front vertical orange light?

I have seen people driving around with the front vertical orange lights ON in their taco. These only come on when I use a blinker....how do you get these to turn on and stay on? (The lights closest to the grille)

 

Daytime running lights. It's a port-installed option. IIRC there's a wiring mod you can do to enable it in non-equipped tacos.

 

Orange lights in front, will be illegal in California, except for blinkers.

I dunno, mine came that way. It's an 08. Maybe a year-model difference?

Only 09-11 have the DRL's from the factory.

 

x2, and before you go wiring yours up, make sure you read all the threads on people who melted their lens because of that bulb being on full time. It's an intermittent problem but if yours aren't on all the time it might not be a bad option to miss out on.

 

Meh, no big deal. That lense should be removed when you do the BHLM anyway.

 

They are the DTRL's that are equipped on certain trucks. I bought the DTRL relay and installed it myself.

 

doubt it, ive seen plenty of chevys driving around that come like that factory

 

My 07 came with the DRL's. They were listed under optional equipment on the window sticker.

 

I know, just figured I'd give him the full disclosure. Seems only a handful of people have had an issue with it. I put that lens back in when I did the BHLM. I did mine white though so the orange tinted lens kind of broke up the white.

 

they do look sick but they also burn your headlights lens. unless you remove them while doing bhlm. what I did was replace the bulbs with 20-led orange bulb thats gives off zero heat and look even brighter than the regular halogen bulb. it also takes away the "orange-glow" that you see in the reflector when the trucks not running, it looks a lot better all clear until you turn it on. thats what you should do.

you can either wire it yourself or take it to the dealer and have them turn it on, costs 40 dollars if I recall correctly.

 

It only depends on the model. My 08 Sport came with them. I am pretty sure they have had them since the 2nd Gens came out...but I could be wrong.

 

All you have to do is buy some wire. split the green wire from the amber lights on the outside of the lights. Hook up the wire up to the green wire and run and jam it on the the wire 3rd hole on the blinker light. It takes about $1 and 5 min for each light.

 

my dtrl's were a $40 factory installed option. i wanted em anyway but was somewhat floored when i noticed the ambers rather than the headlights were used. very odd. i hear they are easier to see by oncommin traffic compared to clears but i just wasnt prepared for the diff. oh well.
