Does a broken 3.4 5VZFE have any value?

Put a rebuilt 5VZFE in my sons truck last year because a rod punched through the engine block at 217k. I never tore apart the old engine to inspect why this may have happened, just took off the oil pan and saw "yep, 2 busted rods", closed it back up. There is a GREAT thread here following my journey of swapping the engine.

Anyway the old engine is sitting in my garage taking up space. I need to get rid of it. I was thinking about just puttting it on a local Facebook group and saying "free - back your truck up and I will drop it in the bed".

Then I thought, money is tight, should I ask for anything in return? Personally I have no interest in any of the parts of this engine for any project. It's essentially missing anything not included in the rebuilt longblock, that I needed for the swap (no oil cooler, etc). Is there any value to Tacoma wrenchers? Do you think I should try selling it for any amount of money?

    THANKS!

Since you did not pull it apart you have no idea if the heads had any damage

If the bearings failed metal got into the Cams who knows.

If it was mine I would be paying to have it hauled away scrap being so cheap I now have a mountain.

If scrap engines are worth money in your area go for it just tell them pay no mind to the hole in the block

When I had the idea to make a bad engine into a Coffee table it did not go well with Mom.

I "donate" my cores to my local re-builder for future favors.

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
If it threw rods the block is probably damaged. But the cylinder heads would be worth something assuming they’re not cracked around the valves

Have your son disassemble it. He’ll have more understanding for how complex machine systems work.

Maybe take it apart and part it out. All the small things can be a pain to find from the dealer and aren't available aftermarket. Clips and brackets, shrouds etc. Plus the heads like mentioned above.

You probably won’t make a huge profit since I’ve had one disassembled and sitting around for 3 years but you’re right, I at least have been able to hook up a timing belt crank sprocket for next to nothing compared to what a dealer would want for another dude on here.

Maybe strip it down and donate the block to a local auto shop class.

I had a seized Honda engine a while back, it was on craigslist for about 2 hours before a shop teacher called and said it would be perfect for his students to take apart and learn with.

It's a boat anchor or scrap value. Nothing more.

That would be pretty sweet. Maybe cut it on a diagonal or several diagonals.
