JBL Audio Upgrade

on a 2020 tacoma sport, if you upgrade to the JBL Audio system, is there a sub woofer that comes behind the back seat?

 

No experience with JBL but most buyers seem to be less impressed with JBL. Not sure on the price difference of JBL/non-JBL but you can get a very nice faster market sq setup retaining factory head unit for a limited about of money.

 

Yes, the JBL system comes with a sub. I don't know how Toyota is doing their 2020 packaging with the JBL system, but I know in order to get certain pkgs they bundle others like tech and premium off-road together. If all you're going after is the JBL pkg for the "upgraded", skip it and go after market using the factory head unit. If like me, you go with the JBL system, you're screwed and can't just upgrade the amps and speakers, but rather you have to rip out the entire system to upgrade it. JBL system sounds decent parked in the dealer lot, but once driving, windows down, sunroof, or bigger tires, it really leaves one desiring a better system.

As others have said.. the JBL "upgrade' comes at a cost in terms of absolutely audio quality compared to aftermarket. You "can" upgrade to aftermarket amps speakers with the JBL system.. but it's a ton more work and way complicated as their "amp" is required for many tech functions like map / speak actions etc. I have had 3 tacomas and avoid the JBL "premium" sound at all costs.. However depending on some of the other options you may need you can't avoid it due to the way they package things.

 

Rockford fosgate makes the DSR1 that will replace the JBL amp and allow the addition of aftermarket amps. Also, while you have to keep the amp, JL Audio makes the Fix-86 that will allow the addition of aftermarket amps. I have a 2013 with jbl and have used both. I prefer the Fix-86 as the voice prompts on the radio (nav, voice calls...etc) are not affected.

 

Thnx! Did not know that, I'll look into it. So all functions on the headunit remain intact and function normally?

 

Using the fix-86, all work as normal. I did have trouble with the DSR1 fully working with the nav voice. For some reason, the voice would lower the volume and then back up after the radio spoke directions.
