@1buzzbait our last rottie passed when the kids were 1. He was great with the kiddos, but we don't have the time to raise a new one right now. Once the kids are more independent and can help we will get another.

You got lucky and getting an animal with the right personality is just luck of the draw. Our dogs did not like camping or water and one had major separation anxiety. It was restrictive for us so much that the people at our vet/boarding office knew them both by name. We couldn't take them anywhere fun where they would both have fun and it sucked. Always boarding them every time we took even the smallest trips and having to accommodate the drop off/pick up when it would be in the opposite direction of where we were going.

I'll pass. Our cat is tolerant of our coming and going and is pretty carefree.

 

I had a Rot/Pit/??? mix when I was younger; his name was Kaiser.
