Anyone ever successfully bought or ordered a plain Pro?

It seems that every Pro that I looked already had port options installed
    most common ones are

    • predator step tubes
    • locking tailgate
    • bed lights
    • mudguards
    • vehicle protection package
that pretty much raised another $2k of the price
I do not need any of those, and dealers would not discount whatsoever.
I guess I'm a little confused about the whole process of those port installed options.

    1. Does Toyota Corp dictate what port installed options?
    2. If Toyota Corp does not dictate port installed options, then if I "order" a plain Pro, Toyota should theoretically accept the "order" and build a Pro even if that means less profit margin for regional distributors?
    3. I understand that there's no a la carte ordering system for Toyota, does that mean if I "order" a plain Pro, the regional distributor can potentially reject that due to less profit on no options?

I meant a TRD Pro that has no extra options and accessories. I configured an equally fully-loaded TRD Offroad and it's only about $2k less than a no option TRD Pro, so all of a sudden, a "plain" TRD Pro seems a better deal than fully-loaded TRD Offroad

leather trim seats, blind-spot monitor, auto-ac, LED headlights, those are standard on Pro

to have those on TRD offroad, gotta have tech, LED, and premium those 3 packages all present. That seems to be a lot harder to find

I always look for the best deal but, if you’re willing to buy a Pro, 2k in options shouldn’t be a problem?

you could part out the items you don’t want and sell it too

yeah, I guess I can later take apart the predator tubes, mudguards and sell for at most half the price
there are things like paint protection film that's just a dead weight loss.
basically if a TRD Pro with no option that is about $2k more expensive than a fully-loaded TRD offroad is a good deal
a TRD Pro loaded with options that is about $4k more expensive is less attractive

Buying the top of the line generally gets you all that. If you don't want all that do what the rest of us do... Buy a different model and build your own.

I would say it totally depends on the dealership, but pros are limited so I could see them saying pound sand.

Are you shopping in either the SE or Gulf States region? Both horrid for games like this. I suggest shopping in another region.

For the price folks pay for these trucks, they should be equipped as we would like them (if ordering options), not just being forced to take them as they come.

Post 8 has a map. It's worth the travel just to dump what you don't want.

My Pro came 'plain' without all the extras. So, lots of false speculation in the comments here.

I didn't order it, I bought it out of state.

When I was ordering a loaded OR, the Gulf States Port 'options' were not optional, per the stealership I was working with at the time. Negotiating removing those items (and lowering the price) was an absolute pain in the ass. As it is, Tacomas, especially Pros, are allocated to dealerships. They can ask, but in the end they get what they get. Everything else is trades.

Might be getting too old for this.
The allotted vehicle from the port originally had predator steps (and something else, can't remember) which I did not want. Talking with the internet manager I was able to get it without the steps but added other things so that may be what swayed them to change the options.

Things that may have worked in my favor:

-I was deployed and in no hurry to pick it up. I had time to shop around and talk to any dealers within 500 miles because I was willing to make the drive (only had to drive about 100 for it).
-It's a 2018 and I picked it up in August of 2018 so being close to the newer model release had an effect.
-I did not want the options they had listed but added different ones so they still made their money.

Not sure how much this helps but the bottom line is they were able to change the order to suit my needs. Note also that the dealer can furnish a copy of the documents tracking the exact specifications of the vehicles they are receiving so you can see if they are being dishonest with you.

When i ordered mine i was allowed to spec the options i wanted. I could have ordered it with no options. It all depends on the dealership

My truck was ordered by the dealer with no options except the TRD Pro Air Filter - something like an $80 option. I negotiated for others that were installed at the dealership after arrival - in the end, I received those at no additional charge over the MSRP cost of the Pro.

Yes you can get a “plane” pro from both the areas run by the mafia Distribution bullshit (SE or Gulf states). If it’s inventory then both distribution networks will usually add a ton of shit, and there is nothing Toyota or the dealer can do. If it’s got a customers name assigned to it, then the dealership can usually stop the distributor adding unwanted shit. But now you’re in the whole “am I really ordering” vs “getting allocated” and no friggin clue on delivery.

BTW I’m in the golf states mafia area, but got the beast deal from SE mafia area so did a fly n drive to get a plane pro. I’d have preferred not to detail with either of these areas, but price won.

I was able to get a TRD Pro in Indiana with no added options. I didn’t pre-order or have it allocated. I just did a lot of research on cars.com to find one on a lot with no options.

Most of the Pros I see listed don't have any or a few port options based on the vehicle photos provided. I don't look at the options or accessories listed, since I'm not in the market to buy a Pro. I have noticed that the online price fluctuates between dealers, and dealer inventory. Tundra, and 4 Runner Pros included. I chock it up to color and overall availability of inventory.
