Hey guys, I could really use your knowledge to help me with this situation I’m in.

I took my truck to Dublin Toyota last week because the check engine light came on. Fast forward 5 days later and they are sending parts of the engine over to a shop to pressure test .

If I’m remembering this correctly, they are looking for pitting. The service advisor said that he has seen this a bit lately with Japanese engines and the metal not being compatible with cheap gas (he said he didn’t hear this from Toyota, just other mechanics) So they are looking for pressure leaks.

If they find a problem, they will try and fix it or rebuild the engine.

Everything is covered under warranty but I’m not trying to have a rebuilt engine. I bought a brand new Tacoma for the complete opposite reason, the reliability. Truck had under 31k miles on it when I dropped it off.

what are my options here?

Just got the news that all structures are gone.

One step closer to getting the skids back on properly. Rivnut installed on stripped out previously threaded mounting points. Didn’t end up using 3/8ths bolts like I wanted. Would have required too large a hole for the Rivnut thread-sert to fit. Went to 5/16ths instead. If they end up not holding I’ll go to original 3/8ths plan using a bigger drill bit, which I didn’t have today.

 

And the new Wheel Speed Sensor is in. Yes.

I am on my third one. Asked a service guy at Walnut Creek Toyota about a longer wire so I can get more slack. Well, they don’t have one but said 4Wheel Parts has a way to extend them. Interesting. May have to swing by and inquire.
