Apologies if this thread already exists, I’m looking for advice on what Tacoma package to get. I want to run a go fast camper... (300lbs) will the Fox shocks with the TRD pro be enough? Or should I get the TRD off road because I’ll be getting rid of the shocks etc anyways? Any and all advice welcome.

Shocks don’t do anything for weight.

Sounds like a sick build. What’s your Instagram handle?

Hmmm. I wonder what I’m thinking of then. I watched a video recently of someone with a TRD pro with a go fast camper and I could have sworn he replaced the rear shocks to better handle the extra weight of the camper. Must be thinking of something else.

I would say the offroad. Give me your social media if you decide to make one around the truck I want to follow the build. Saves money to lift a trd off road and lift it rather than getting a pro and lifting it (properly). But in the end I like the way that the pros look lifted and stock but that is just me. I don't think that the pro shocks will give you any benefit of having a camper over a stock off road, I think that upgrading/changing the leaf springs is what helps you with loading the truck. Don't quote me on that though I am still pretty new to this. In the end its up to you

Have to get the TRD Sport if you want a DCLB for space.

If you just upgrade the leafs to hold the weight better, it might make sense to just go with the pro to have the better shocks. Besides the suspension, the pro just has appearance packages. If you have the money and want the "coolness" for instagram, I'd go with the pro and just upgrade the rear leafs.

Leaf springs is what you will need to replace for the added weight. I would look into the Icon RXT leafs for versatility of additional weight. These builds always become heavier than originally planned. I am not sure if the Fox OEM shocks will work with a lleaf lift in the rear. Good luck with build

Chako has a good idea to just upgrade the leafs

To OP. The "coolness" factor I think gives it a unique approach because you don't see a lot of pros that have swapped suspension and I just like the appearance. I think a big reason would be that in TW, if you say that you are gonna swap out the suspension on a pro you are gonna get a lot of replies advising you not to and how you wasted money, and a small marginal amount of people that would not care about the fact that your swapping the suspension and actually helping you get the lift/setup right.

As of now my Instagram is only pictures of my glass work and my dog lol but will do. I’m completely new to the off road world so I’m pretty clueless right now. Before my latest obsession with Tacoma’s I was planning on building out an old Porsche 930 so this is a new world. I’m definitely a sucker for the hood scoop though....

I’m definitely a huge fan of how aggressive the pro looks. How about the TRD sport and building that out?

The sport doesn't have a locker or crawl control. So if you aren't going off roading in the gnarly stuff, it might work. But I think those features are pretty useful.

Sport doesn’t come with rear locker so if you plan on going offroad I would stick to Pro or Off-road

I think the sport could be a good one to build out, I like when the sports are lifted because of the "scoop". But you could try to get as close to a TRD pro look with getting an offroad and then getting a sport hood the same color as your truck that someone will sell once in a blue moon. But if it were me, I would go with a offroad :). Again in the end its all up to you

I actually didn't know that the sport didn't come with the rear locker

I think it comes down to how much you are going to build it. If you are just going to change the leaves to hold the weight, I would go Pro.

However, if you are going to go long travel, get fiberglass fenders, fit 35s, regear, and change a bunch of other stuff, it doesn't make sense to pay more when you are going to just tear it off.

Sounds about right for a GFC owner.

I'd go with the Off-Road, that will get you a rear Locker and a larger Rear End then the Sport has. You won't get the hood scoop (which I don't miss) but you could always do a hood swap if you really want one.

As far as Shocks go, standard rule of thumb is shocks dampen the load (or shock, such as hitting a pothole at speed) springs carry the load.

if OP is concerned about weight of the camper, buy Firestone airbags for rear Axle and it won’t matter what trim
