Sorry to hear that, it completely tore through Swanton Road. Sad to hear Swanton Railroad also burnt down.

 

At some point we might have to evacuate where we are in Santa Cruz. Since we stay in a hotel for a week or so I’d rather stay somewhere semi nice. We were planning on going to Monterey but they have a fire as well as have posted tourists need to go elsewhere.

Is there anywhere nice stay south on either the 5 or 101 within 300-400 miles. I know a few people have gone to Fresno but that’s not really in my top ten places to visit.

Looks like highway 1 is also closed around Big Sur for another fire.

 

Santa Barbara is nice.

 

My family is from Pacific Grove. Cousin says it's bad there. Fires in your area, Carmel, and Big Sur, as you say. It's rally sad. I'm in Oakland and we're being choked out by so many fires. Freakin' crazy.

 

Closer would be SLO town. Morro Bay.

 

Avila beach/pismo area is nice too

Air quality I’m not too concerned with. We are from SLC UT and this is pretty much standard quality for winter there just not smoke of course. Just don’t want to be in the fire path.

Yeah it’s nuts. I have been mostly concerned about the fire in Santa Cruz then saw the one in San Jose. That’s pretty bad too. Basically surrounded at this point.

 

That’s what my wife suggested right away.

 

I’ll second the Santa Barbara suggestion since I used to live there.

My uncle is running off to Vegas. He said the hotel rates are pretty good.

 

Mountain people dont fuck around, this is at the bottom of my moms road in the santa cruz mountains.

 

I’m a city boy and that would be my reaction too. Just without the sign.

 

I’d seriously consider that if it wasnt 100+ every day.

Same thing happened 2-3 years ago during fires. Someone who has the gall to try that shit during fires deserves to be shot.

I thought it was bad when people were breaking into rented houses and cleaning them out. Fire evacuation you deserve a spot in hell.

I think you're gonna have a hard time finding a spot. I'll recommend Parkfield and the Parkfield Inn. Note that there is nothing in Parkfield but the Inn and the Cafe. The family that own/run both are the same folks who ranch the area. However, it's a great place to be. Quiet too.
