major mpg loss help!!!

the past month i have been losing around 60-70 miles of gas. i have no idea what the problem could be. I havent added anything to the truck but my spindles but that was over 3 months ago. i usually get around 300-320 per tank but now im only getting around 250. any ideas?

How many miles on your rig?
Air filter clean? Injector cleaning? Winter gas additives causes my mpg to go done some. Differential and motor oil fresh?

 

tire pressure, time to change air filter?

 

better keep a eye on the poor kid down the block. how do ya think he gets to the liquer store if hes not tappin yer tank once a week?

 

has 25000 on it. tire pressure is fine. says i dont need to take it in for another 2000 miles

 

Maybe your gas station is switching to the winter fuel mix.

It has a screen to prevent that, well the gas part not the 'poor kid'.

OP, It is winter, and winter gas will cut down on MPG's.
I would highly suggest new spark plugs, fuel injector cleaner, new diff oil, clean MAF/throttle body, tire balance/rotation, and be very light on the foot pedal.
And see what happens after all of this........

 

thanks ill look into that. it just freaked me out cause ive had my truck lifted for 2 years and have never had my tank go lower then 280

 

Colder temperatures and winter gas is your explanation.

 

i average about 16.5mpg and now im getting 13 mpg

 

i live in statesboro, GA most days its still hot enough to go swimming outside

 

With my lift and 33's I'm lucky to get 15mpg. I don't know what size your tires are but my gas mileage is pretty bad with 33's. the winter mix doesn't help either

 

i have 285/16 which are 33's, had them for about 2 years this didnt happen last winter

 

ok.. last guy that was all crazy about how he was losing mileage did not know how to calculate mileage and had a bad fuel gauge.

If your fuel gauge is at all involved with calculation of mileage, you are doing it wrong.
You do not ever look at a fuel gauge for anything other than fun. It does not tell you any reliable information and is very prone to failure and bad readings based on many conditions. Not to mention they aren't calibrated to anything at all.

If you are indeed able to calculate your fuel mileage and are losing that much. You should have one or more of the following: a CE light, heavy soot on the exhaust, overheating (or an overheating brake, catalytic converter or something), performance problems.

Its not a huge drop but you're not claiming great mileage as your baseline.
