Wife Backed into my Taco!

The wife backed out of the garage with out even looking and scraped the hell out of my Fender Flares. At least that all the damage she did, it could have been a lot worse. ARG! What's the best way to fix this? Thanks. Pic of carnage.

You won't get it back to perfect, but you will be surprised how well it will come out with a good polish job. You should be able to get about 90% of that out if you can get your hands on a buffer and some Meguiars 105 Ultra Cut Compound.

 

If you don't have any gouges and it's just white surface scratches, buff it with some Meguiars 205 Ultra Finishing Polish, you'll get most of it off.

 

You mean that really WILL "buff right out?"

 

On a serious note, and assuming you don't want to "remove-repaint-reinstall" get a jar of touch-up paint (with the ballpoint tip applicator and use it in the deep scratches (you can tell with a fingernail which ones are really deep.) Sand it to flush with a tiny piece of 1500 grit glued on the end of a pencil eraser, and then proceed with your polishing job.

Your goal here isn't going for "perfect" but rather it's becoming a camoflauge artist and making the defect blend in so well that at 5' away only you see it.

Or if you don't want to be able to tell even when you look for it then remove them and bring them to a reputable paint shop. You won't even have to give up the truck for the day.

Or you could just paint all the flares black. I personally really like that look.

make her pay for an off road bumper! ....after that she will look before backing .....dont worry my wife backed into my old car i thought is was really funny but i never told her that, i just made her feel guilty for a little bit then let her off the hook. i just said hey better my car than our kid. that phrase will leave a lasting impression.

 

most of it should buff out, use a high speed buffer. id use some 3m buffing compound then follow that up with some good wax. i would purchase the stuff at an auto paint supply shop. the buffing compound is about $40 bucks or so, for the wax use what ya like. id go with 3m also. good luck

 

eh.. my wife dropped a drill on the hood of my brand new GTO.. let the other one coast out the garage unattended ("luckily" the door caught on the garage or it would have rolled into the neighbors house.)

That's what insurance and buffers are for. At least you don't have to deal with a stranger.

dang that sux. The damage is really bad. The only way to fix this is by getting a new metal off road bumper

 

when the wifes car was sideswiped (hit/run) it had the same paint transfer..took it to a shop and they showed me that simple rubbing alcohol and a soft rag would take the other paint off. all that was left was some chips in the paint (not enough to notice on the dark blue car with blackish primer)
