Going in for the frame spray recall in a couple of weeks. I was going to start the Krown (drill and spray chain in Canada) treatments this year. Is there any point considering its getting the Toyota frame treatment? Havent read any the details of what exactly they do and info I was sent by Toyota was sketchy at best

    Ok.

Dealership seems to be mysteriously vague about what they actually going to do. They need the truck overnight and had to order in special “treatment” which would be sent back if I didn’t get truck in ASAP.

lol. Going to have to dig into it online. Was just wondering about overlap with the Krown treatment.

I have yet to get it done myself. There’s a few threads with description and photos of owners that have had it done. Seems like there just spraying the boxed section and installing frame plugs not much more.

Might want to make appointment. I was told it expires if I don’t get truck in by next month. They offered rental since they need truck overnight.

Why wouldn't you get it done, if for nothing else other than 12 (I think) more years of frame warranty?

I had mine done in June and there was no mess. They gave me a loaner.

Here’s what mine looked like when they were done. If you don’t get it done and your frame rusts through within 12 years of the in service date then Toyota won’t replace it.D8FDA02B-8FE6-4C1B-8675-1CA6DD951CAA.jpg31214F13-E1F9-4098-93C3-C494B0DF8B54.jpg 757C0BE8-1177-4257-B714-CC4F6DAFD159.jpg

Had mine done a couple of weeks ago, they kept it overnight as they cleaned around where they put the treatment and had to let it dry. Drilled a couple of holes in the frame and put some plastic guards and plugs in it too. Put me in a 70 grand tundra for a rental. Now just have to fluid film the rest of the frame before winter.

Wow...that's way different than what they did to mine in MA.
    Before

    AFTER

And now it's back to the "BEFORE" look ;)

I had a 2005 before and they put that black tar looking shit on it and it eventually came off.

Ok so no reason to forgo a standard drill and spray rust program like Krown? I have a Krown appt a week after my truck goes in for the Toyota treatment.

I would go ahead and have it done. I have no confidence in the treatment that Toyota is using, if it was any good they wouldn’t still be replacing frames.

No harm in doubling down. Toyota treatment on the inside, Krown on the outside. Yearly apps of the stuff have kept my '05 Tundra virtually rust free. Hopefully it'll work for the Tacoma.

    Cheers.

Mine is a 2010 that I have treated with Krown annually since new. Truck has spent its life so far in Canada. When I bought the truck I painted the frame (POR15) and if I see an area that needs attention, I'll remove rust and repaint. Going in this week to get the Krown spray again.

I haven't taken my truck in for the frame inspection and don't plan on getting the Toyota spray applied. My approach has been working and don't see the need to change at this point. From my perspective, Krown appears to be working.

I can't see Krown being detrimental to the Toyota spray. So I'd say keep the Krown appointment.

According to the letter I received it needs to be performed by 5/31/2022
I’m not saying I won’t have it done just that I’m in no hurry. Fluid Film keeps it nice so far.

Mine has the same looking coating(2015). I just bought it about 6 months ago. I always wondered who coated the frame like that.

Had mine done in MA a few weeks back.
Looked like this only WAY MORE GOOP inside frame and evidence of pre-cleaner. They had my truck for 2 weeks but gave me a brand new fully loaded $55K Highlander hybrid loaner (tried sticking me with a camry but wasnt happening).

Tech I dealt with was great and explained everything to me, then gave me some pointers on doing the brake job myself with all OE parts and I REALLY appreciated that a few days later.
Said they clean frame w/ one product, then do an inspection after it dries. If it passes inspection they do a 2 step process that includes a pre-treatment then that goop in the known trouble spots.
I told him I am thinking about having NHOIL treatment done before this winter and he said it shouldnt be a problem at all and was 100% a fan of the NHOIL treatment.

I was told from the beginning it would be there "at least 3 business days (not including weekends)" and then there was a holiday weekend, coronavirus bs and some issue waiting for more product. Oh well, I warned them before I racked up a TON of miles on the Highlander Hybrid between using it for commute/work and then on weekends and nights with the fam.

Dealer who I bought my truck from new undercoated my Tacoma per Warranty recall 2 months ago. They kept vehicle a day and a half and provided a loaner. Looks just like the pictures above. In October a co-worker will do his yearly undercoating at his farm and I'm hopping on board @ $125. Truck is almost 9 years old now with about 99,000 mi on clock. Have nothing to loose.....
