ive narrowed my choices down to these 2 tires.. and leaning towards the duratrac. my truck is for daily driving/city driving for the most part, with the exception of taking it to the mountains 2x a week to bird hunt. looks like these are a good choice... i hope so anyway!

Anyone notice a decrease in MPG from the stock Rugged Fails to the Duratracs in the 265/75-16 size?

They have white letters on one side and blacked out on the other side. You have the choice of which you want out.

You're going up an Inch in tire size so your odometer will read less than usual making it look like less MPG.

I work in the oil field in northern Alberta, and our work trucks all have duratracs on them. VERY loud at and below 50% tread remaining. Also, terribly loose on dry gravel. Great in mud, decent in snow, and ok at best as a highway driver.
I just ordered new rubber for my Tacoma, can you guess why I went with the BFG's being 200$ cheaper?

lots of good tires to choose from out there... but between the two, i vote for the BFG's.

I like the extra ply that E provides for rocks and stuff when I am out on the trail. I don't have either tire but probably would go with DTs.

Well I'll put in my recommendation since I've put about 15,000 miles on a set of BFG TKOs. The ride quality is surprisingly pretty good, but I have trouble getting them balanced. They have worn evenly though, and they still look fairly new. My only complaint besides the balancing part is that I original bought these tires so they would be able to withstand lake bed rocks cause I live literally on the lake so fishing and boating is a weekly event. I was disappointed when one of the rocks punctured the sidewall only after a few weeks of being out there. I suppose any tire with a 4,000 lb truck hitting the sidewall on a sharp rock just right will do that, but do to their limited sidewall protection my next set of tires will either be Maxxis Big Horns or Duratracs.

Maybe b/c they are a commercial tire. Most likely marketed for a work truck. Like my taco. IMO a truck was built to be used not looked at

Just so funny how much some care more about the looks than performance. If a slick meant that my truck would be better on the trails I would be running them.

I have had 3 sets of BFG A/T's & 4 sets of BFG M/T's. Lots of winter, sand, mud, and highway driving. Here is my 2 cents:

    1973 Landcruiser FJ40:
Once needed 4wd to get off a front lawn with A/T's, kind of embarrassing. Treads filled up. M/T's were awesome on both the 73 & 81 FJ40's.

    2004 Tacoma:
Both BFG A/T & M/T's worked well overall
M/T's: good all around, awesome in sand and mud, and not too noisy on highway. OK in snow, not good in ice & fair overall for winter (better than I expected considering a wider M/T).
A/T's: Ok in winter, not exceptional. OK all around. Developed some warping after 30,000 km.

2010 Tacoma (current truck) Running BFG A/T's
I keep coming back to these for some reason. I need an all-around tire that can still do ok in winter. Works well so far... will keep you posted when snow flies. Would be open to other tires, but I really like the M/T's & probably will end up going with 2 sets of tires: Winters for winter & BFG M/T's for the rest of the year, and skip the A/T's all together next time.

Don't get me wrong...I love a good looking truck but I would not choose an inferior tire just because I thought that it looked better than another.

Don't be fooled. The tire designers know that many folks buy a tire based on how aggressive it looks. They have that in mind (as well as other design considerations, obviously) when they're designing the tread.

i voted other..since my experience with the BFG a/t was horrible.. the duratracs are a decent tire but i'd go with the general grabber A/T since they come with a 50 or 60k mile warranty and i've heard nothing but good things about them. My BFG's are almost totally bald with constant balancing and rotating at 30k miles on them..
