Possibly, but thinking that will just spew hot gas around it in a less positive manner. At least now it’s piping the exhaust away.

Unless you sleep in the bed with the truck running, I’m not sure it matters. Either way you will see marks on your tire from the exhaust over time.

Good to know. I have 5 matching wheels so it will get swapped out every 5000 miles. Not sure if that will help.

It’ll have to get pretty damn hot to melt a tire. I think you’re good.

Use the DEI titanium/lava rock header wrap. Have it on my ktm dirt bike pipe and stays kool on my leg. Also have it on exhaust section I rerouted on tacoma! Buy the real stuff and not the knock-off. Doesnt hold moisture like the regular composite wrap.

Had a question for you guys, I found this product the other day when I was looking for solutions to sleeping in the back of the truck. We have a 5ft bed and sleeping with the tailgate up for any normal sized person is a no go. we'd like to be able to find a way to seal it up and this seems to do the trick. I know a RTT is a simple solution but I cant seem to talk the wife into it so this might be the next best thing. Wanted to get some input though in case you have had some experience with it. Took a trip up to the Sawtooths this weekend and the feet were a little cold hanging out the ass end of the truck. Thanks for your help!

Where in the Sawtooth's did you go? Random trail, campground?

went up to Stanley Lake and Pettit Lake for paddle boarding and then we took some old fire roads that we found for our campsite. All of the campgrounds were a madhouse and we didnt want to be surrounded by 5th wheels that were cranking the generators all night. Definitely worth the trip though, my wife and I were calling it Grand Teton NP without all of the assholes. Ketchum is also a really awesome town with great people, food, and beer.

Yeah, it’s difficult to find a place that isn’t overrun with 5th wheels and/or side-by-sides. And then those damn generators.

I have a coworker that is backpacking for seven days in the Sawtooth’s. Fabulous place. I would like to take the truck there.

it really is worth the trip, it was our first time going up there and we will definitely be going back. Locals said June is the time to go as its before the forest fires start up in California and blow smoke all throughout the range (which is what we were dealing with).

Anyone have any dispersed camp recommendations outside of Ouray Co? Preferably something that can be found in the dark? The Rules for the Umcompadre NF say dispersed camping is allowed within 300' of any existing road of the national forest. I want to find something on that side of the ridge so I can do black bear pass first thing in the morning in a couple weeks. Once that trail is done, I will explore more trails in the area. I wanted to beat the rush and knock that off the list first.

Pretty much any of those dirt roads between Ouray and Silverton are camp-able with little pullouts here and there. And it’s all beautiful. There are a manny many miles of amazing roads in the San Juan’s with plenty of random camping options.

I’ll be headed there myself next month. And will probably camp two nights and stay one night in a hotel/B&B.

I tried looking into it but couldn't find any solid confirmation if it was open or not.
