why a nightmare? lol forgive me for the questions. and i thought someone on here claimed when they tried to order one, the dealer didn't even want to give them a price. see that's a problem. one can't commit to purchasing something IF you don't know the price.

yeah, just call the dealership before you head on out. Noth'n lost ask'n on the phone call, if they can't then call up the next dealership. I guess all the dealerships could do something for someone for a sale, if not, the dealership ain't worth it because now we know what they can and can't do. Just saying

SET has been known to not give the best deals, they also like to add alot of port installed options to fluff up the price, someone mentioned they also like to pretend the rebates don't exist unless asked and are referred to as customer cash, never had to deal with them, just been here to see people not enjoying the process of buying with SET.

I had a few dealers in NE region / NJ have no issues committing to a price for my 16, I simply signed a piece of paper with intent to buy said allocated truck and put down a $500 deposit towards the down payment, got a phone call when it showed up and picked it up no issues. Maybe an SET thing, not wanting to commit to a price or COVID craziness with the market.

I was told that the SET dealers are like the mafia -- with the exception that the mafia at least buys you a ham sandwich before they break your kneecaps.

I have probably another $5-6,000 into it.

Hi folks, I couldn't resist the temptation to get a taco right away. I ended up buying a 2020 TRD Sport MT 4X4 with LED, Tech, and Premium all 3 package.
    MSRP $42,400
Purchase price $38,500 (with $1000 rebate)

that's roughly 9.2% off the MSRP. I think that's pretty decent?

Now I'm going to talk to another dealer and get my $500 deposit back for the 2021 TRD Pro.

I'm not crawling rocks or spinning mud, the truck will be mostly for visiting parks, camping, kayaking, hunting. So quite a bit of unpaved off-roading. I really hope not having a rear locker is gonna be fine for those applications.

Most expensive vehicle I bought so far, yet the worst keys, the Miata 6MT even has push-start

Seems like a good deal. I couldn't get a dealer to budge on an Off Road today.

I feel you, I couldn't find any off road with what I want in the entire state where I live, they seem quite hard to come by. I wasn't even gonna consider mine unless the deal is right.

Ahhhh so basically they'll get everything done but not give you a price. I'll take a ride tomorrow maybe and see what they tell me.

When I allocated my 16 it was based on invoice pricing (with the excitement of the 3rd gen a member here leaked out the true invoice vs. msrp spreadsheet, so many of us used this, think the thread still exists somewhere) which I had at the time and thats what I paid when it showed up as agreed upon. Not sure if SET will play the same way though, never dealt with them.

From my experience, “Ordering” through SET is not necessarily a problem nor is getting them to commit to a price. They found the truck, we agreed on a price and initialed the worksheet and I put down $1000 deposit. That would probably just be more of a dealer to dealer possible problem. I’m thinking some dealers possibly would rather have the sale now as opposed to in the future/not deal with extra work of ordering. The dealership I bought my truck from did, I believe, from the above ordering explanation, the third bullet ordering option because I specifically wanted a 4wd cement TRDOR with absolutely zero options(rare) and also with the black and orange interior(very rare in lower packages)=unicorn. Took about 40 days. They said they had to catch it before they added predator steps or anything.
Also, in SET, when they come into port they add port options. Pretty much every truck gets Toyotacare which is some sort of stupid Scotchgard on the interior for $500 and, I assume crappy, paint protection film for $700. So they had to specifically tell them at the port not to add those things. Doing this kept the MSRP down to $38,085 which is the absolute cheapest you can get an OR auto 4wd for.
The cash incentive thing is that they call it dealer cash instead of customer cash. it’s not advertised which is why it doesn’t show up on the Toyota website and I assume they don’t HAVE to give it to you. I believe it’s zero dollars right now. In July when the rest of the country went down to $1000 they went down to $0. You can call Toyota customer service and they will tell you what the dealer cash incentive is currently. If you ask them at the dealership they’re going to give you the typical dealer BS type of answer.

Those are 16 prices? I doubt they would go by them now. Especially with the price increases. Lol

Yea, I'll try tomorrow and see what they'll tell me about the 21 models and ordering.

Yep and ya no way, there was a $1200 increase in 2017 for the rear power slider alone, then leather and TSS, then LEDs, etc. My fully loaded 17 had an MSRP of $42k as opposed to my loaded 2020 at $44.8k.

Guys thanks for the info. I'll see what happens tomorrow. Would they do an order without a deposit? Or is that just wishful thinking?

They might, I only put $500 down on mine the one time I "ordered". And no problem, good luck!

Let's hope they get back to normal next year!

    Look at these Toyota projections:

"Toyota declined to comment on global production plans for next month, but the company has said it expects global sales will be 15 percent lower in the July-September quarter from last year, and 5 percent lower in October-December. By early 2021, it expects sales will be 5 percent higher on the year. Toyota plans to sell 7.2 million vehicles in the fiscal year to March, down 20 percent from a year ago."

A lot of factors impact that statement (not the US, not trucks, specifically) but that says to me Q1 2021 they expect sales to be up -- meaning production should be up. Worse case scenario, Q2 2021 availability issues should be resolved. I would bet that moves to the left (i.e., Q1) and not the right (Q2).

If you are looking to buy and not in a hurry that seems like when there is a reasonable chance the numbers turn and buyers are in a better position than sellers.

    Here's to hoping !

Just bought a 2020 Double Cab V-6 4x4 SR in Colorado today. Had MSRP of 33,828 and had to pay 32,828. They gave me a 1,000 discount and got 1.9% instead of taking the 1,000 rebate. I needed a truck and I dont see there being a huge swing in prices in Denver even when production does come back. To many people buy them here..
