Ashland, OR? Not sure if they're dealing with fires or not. Never been but heard good things as a mountain bike destination town. It's not South, but it does get you away from all of this and it's about 400 miles away.

Did you buy it? I’ve been looking at the older LC/LX570 models similar to the one pictured. My lady loves them.

That’s another thing I’m worried about. Wait too long and I’m not getting anything. This evacuation thing is new to me. Balancing act between leaving too early and too late and I even have the luxury of making that choice. A lot of people didn’t.

I really wish they would stop selling the LC as a luxury vehicle in the US. Makes you wonder how you can get a new LX for the same price as a new LC. $90k for a “name” and “heritage” is absurd.

 

I totally agree 10000%. Something, somewhere, got mixed up and they now sell those for STOOOPID prices. Even the earlier current gen models, like an ‘08 with 200k+ miles are still selling for $30k+ all day. Mind-boggling.

 

In some respects, "too soon" is never bad; where "too late" is never good.

Not much different than the prices about 5 years ago. I remember seeing one at Concord Toyota. About the same.

 

I replaced my carrier bearing as well as the u-joints today and I feel like I was having vibrations in the steering wheel that I assumed was unbalanced tires? But after replacing the carrier & u-joints I feel like I'm noticing less vibrations... idk maybe my mind is playing tricks on me....

@Don5352 Did you ever figure out the cause of the vibrations you were having? I remember you saying you were messing with the driveline/ carrier bearing? Was just curious if you ever figured it out and what the solution was?

 

@Dawdaw808 According to the shop I took it to, on the recommendation from Southbay Driveline(who built the drive line) , is that the carrier bearing used by Southbay was weak. He said go buy a stock Toyota carrier bearing. Then, he said add preload. What he meant by that is to push the bearing as far to the rear as it will go. The bracket only allows for about an inch and a half. That seemed to do the trick. But my mind wanders to every bump and vibration now. Is it the driveline? I don't know. I need a Go Pro to film it.

 

Its too bad that politics (and cost) play such a part if effective firefighting. Imagine what a fleet of planes like that could do to a fire if they were to immediately air attack a fire from the start. Ive always felt like the air attack was limited, yet one of the most crucial parts of fighting a fire. I'm sure that a lot more homes could be saved if 10 of those planes were put in the air the first hour of a fire... but thats just my thoughts

I looked to see what air resources were deployed. I saw two helicopters on the SCU Complex, one of which was the Sheriff's Office and as far as I know, it doesn't have a BAMBI bucket-maybe it does? One helicopter at CZU. Of course, Flightaware and others like it may not be accurate but I feel like the air attack should have been stronger but I understand with all the fires, resources are hard to come by.

Something else I've wondered about. Nothing flies when the smoke is thick. Technology exists to give pilots better visibility in such conditions. Why doesn't the state work toward installing or if necessary, doing more to research so that aircraft can fly.

Unlikely since that serves Marin County which is farther North. East Bay Regional Parks has their helicopter up as well. I just don’t know if any of the PD helicopters are equipped to fight fire.
