Really, I got a ticket from a CHP for doing 85 in a 65. He said he didn't know they would go that fast. I guess ignorance abounds on many levels.

My TJ would run 95 and I never once had the "Death Wobble". I guess maybe b/c I maintained it and kept an eye on things?

I'd still bet the major of people dogging them don't have any first hand experience with them.

I used to enjoy TFL on YouTube, but for the last few years all they do is praise fucking jeep, "front and rear locker", complain about Tacomas costing too much , but over look the 60k price tag on a rubicon. Jeeps are 10k overpriced anyday of the week, interior is garbage and driving quality is absent.

I will definitely agree with you on the cost. I also think the cost of a new Tacoma is insane though. I guess I'm still stuck in the days of a full-sized truck being 30K and a nicely equipped truck. I have and will never buy a new truck. Those numbers are just me remembering my dad mention them.

U can get a new sr5 4wd for not much over 30k. Tacos now have more capability than a 2000 full size in some trims. I love my truck. I'd never ever pay 60k for a jeep!

I get that, but I still think the price is insane. I'm a pretty simple guy and don't have any reason for a new truck. I'm perfectly fine buying good used ones...……..basically a cheap, broke bastard

Same man! Finally got into a position where I could buy a new Tacoma and pick what I wanted, even down to color , so I did it. I'll never get rid of this truck. Now looking at full size half tons topping 65, omg!

Mine is more I don't want to pay, not that I can't :D I drive my vehicles til the wheels fall off. I'm 41 and this is only my 5th DD) I've just always looked at them as transportation. This is the first one I have ever modded and I love it

Restored 1965 Mustang (1995-1996) put in the garage
    1995 T4R(1996-2001 185K when sold)
1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee (2001-2009 190K when sold)
2002 TJ (2009-2018 215K when a jackass rear ended me at a red light)

    I've had a few secondary vehicles. 84 CJ7, 79 Wagoneer, and a 93 S10 Blazer.

    And quite a few motorcycles.

I’m not really a Jeep guy myself, but they are cheap (older), rip everything out, install XXX drivetrain and go have fun. Beat the living hell out of them and take to the scrap yard. I have issues doing this with a Tacoma due to the high resale. My next trail rig will be a tube chassis. No more full body rigs for this guy.

I DD my 03 Rubicon for a bit. It was ok, and did better on fuel than my 2015 Tacoma sport (which was surprising), but not by much. If I had to decide between a Tacoma or a Jeep for daily duties today...Tacoma it would be.

I enjoy TFL but CANNOT stand how pro Ford/GM/Chevrolet they are when comparing it to a Toyota. We know and the rest of the world knows Toyota’s are one of the best quality/reliable vehicles. They complain about the stupidest shit most of the time.

Yep...my wife had a 2002 Jeep Liberty. When it was brand new we took it on vacation to the beach...thought we were gonna die on the interstate when I took it up to 70 mph...what a shaking piece of shit it was.

The Jeeps and the Tacoma are 2 different animals so it's not a fair comparison. Maybe compare the Gladiator with the Tacoma is a bit fairer.

If you want to compare Jeeps to a Toyota, compare a CJ or YJ to a FJ40. The FJ40 was built like a tank...

Jeeps do last that long. My family owed a 1993 Cherokee with the 4.0 that had over 400k on it before it was sold and it was still running and driving. 100% original drive train. My brother also had a Cherokee 4.0 that had 250k on it and we wheeled it hard for years. Only stopped when he rolled it and the body was trashed. I’ve owned 3 jeeps all so with the 4.0. Never had an issue. But I do also own a Tacoma now and a samurai with mostly Tacoma parts haha.

I owned a 2010 jk rubicon. And yes it was noisy and the materials they use on the interior are cheap. I drove it for seven years and never had any major problems I bought the max warranty with it and everything was covered. It was great off road and could go through really deep snow . But its not practical for a DD. My tacoma is way better in ride quality and more reliable. And its nice the aftermarket has plenty to offer now
Only two things i miss about my jeep is the manual transmission and having the top down with the open air driving around. If i ever got another it would be a 1980 ish cj-5

oops, looks like i offended someone.

Anything with a gas pedal can go over the posted speed limit, doesn't mean its going to drive good while doing it. The solid front axle has zero feedback and feels like a shopping cart

    where's my money?

The only time I ever felt unsafe on the interstate was when I disconnected my front sway bar and forgot to reconnect.

Took a few 250+ mile trips in mine, not the most pleasant experience in a soft top (the trick is positive pressure), but never felt unsafe. Not sure I would have felt the same with more than a 2" body lift though.

True everyone is comparing a company to the Tacoma. I'd rather drive any Jeep than a Toyota echo.

I had a 2013 Jeep 6MT JK 2Dr. 3.5 inch lift on Bilstein 5100's with 35" Duratrac tires. I bought it at around 4,000km, and the manual trans was replaced under warranty at 22,000km. Trans started making a wining noise again at 44,000km, so i sold it to a wholesaler.

My taco is a 2008 6MT, 4.0 4x4 with 3" Bilstein 5100 lift, ICON leaf pack in the rear and 33" duratrac tires. only minor issues with parking brake sticking.

A few people have mentioned the jeep death wobble or steering wobble. from my experience this is always caused because of an improper lift with bad geometry.

    Pro for jeep
    - Doors off roof off is awesome
    - Feels invincible Offroad
    - Aftermarket parts are about 1/2 the price of tacoma parts. at least in Canada
    - Used parts are very easy to find.
    - Better Gas mileage then 4" tacoma
    - 3.6L pentastar is a Mercedes engine. Supposed to be more reliable.
    - Great is light or heavy snow. Tacoma needs weight in the bed or it slips
    - Easy to fit 35's. I actually had them on when the jeep was stock for a couple days.
    - Turns Super tight. Easy to U turn and park.

    Cons for jeep
    - Surface rust on all suspension parts after one winter. (Taco might be slightly worse.) For comparison my 2006 BMW with 300,000 has zero rust.
    - My transmissions both sucked... but this is not a common issue
    - Soft top is noisy
    - No AC, power locks, or power windows...Tacoma comes stock with these items
    - Basically no trunk in the 2DR.
    - Impossible to get decent audio Soft top causes this.

There's a "New Kid In Town..."

If I were going to purchase a new vehicle that was to be a 4x4, it would not be a Jeep or a Toyota; it would be the new Ford Bronco.

Not much in the way of mods needed right out of the factory; pretty much good to go as a 4c4 off road vehicle as delivered with lots of capability at a VERY competitive price when you consider it will not need the mods that a Jeep or Toyota will require to get them to the same capability.

Thank you Glenn Frey, and The Eagles...

    Regards,

    Jim

I've had many CJs - actually my favorite was a 79 CJ5 3 speed V8...I was young and stupid with it - before I was married and kids (well that did not make me smarter)...I LOVED the CJs. I always wanted a CJ8.
